Waiting to see, interested into what they use.
Not that it would matter much, but is this an S1?

Looks like it from the 2 oil injection provisions per housing.

The problem is, this is Mr Engman working, and he does not like company while he works. I take these pictures when he's not around. :)

More, just for you. friends! :)

wannawankel 08-09-2017 12:20 PM

Ummm...did those side seals fall out?

wannawankel 08-09-2017 12:23 PM

What does the dealer and the Mazda reman plant do for cleaning - do they:
1) clean the coolant channels on reused irons
2) clean the SSV and other ports leading to/from engine (mazdaverx8 I think had to do all that himself on his MAzda reman replacement engine)
(3) ...

boricua13 08-09-2017 12:44 PM

Ok that's just teasing, we need more than that. Tell the big boss to go to lunch so you can take more. Better yet, buy him lunch, lol

Remans don't come with an intake manifold.

I would imagine 2 of the 3 if not all held against the flat housing by oil when the flat housing was separated from the 'block'.

He's actually out of town now and everything is apart for further modification.

Paul.

200.mph 08-09-2017 01:30 PM

what mods?

TeamRX8 08-09-2017 05:08 PM

Blurry photos = fubar

You must need a drink :all_cohol

How about a pre-teardown compression test? Maybe doesn't mean much being oiled down though ....

Looks good so far. They have done a good job of cleaning the housing. What we dont know is things like clearances.

My rebuild had a lot of extras such as steel apex seal, billet studs, extra dowels, porting to exhaust, upgraded side seals and may other upgrades.

Its a simple engine and you can spend more money on a bunch of upgrades for little gain.

No housing cleaning. Everything is brand new, as far as housings, rotors and seals.

In this group of pictures you can see the used front cover.

Paul.

9krpmrx8 08-14-2017 02:55 PM

So Paul, according to sleep-z (employee at reman plant) they did not always use new rotors or housings, he said it was dependent on condition. What have you seen in this regard? My last reman only lasted 24k or so and had a failed coolant seal, Rob at Pineapple said it looked like it happened during assembly.

NotAPreppie 08-14-2017 02:59 PM

Contrary to what I've previously read about remans, this one looks pretty skookum.

That policy seems to have changed, maybe about 2 or even more years ago. ALL of their remans have new rotor housings and rotors. Seems to be the case often with flat housings as well.

Paul.

Paul.

And this is why I bought a reman a few months ago. I believe I read on Banzai's site that they now come with new rotors and housings. I haven't done a compression test on mine (I've got two track weekends on it now) yet, but it seemed awfully nice out of the box. I'll do one this week, though notapreppie's compression tester is highly suspect. :P
