Surprise surprise, hesitation

2005 mt 72000 miles
I have been noticing over the last week or two that my car has developed a nasty hesitation (almost like total power loss for a split second) around 5k rpms and a less noticeable hesitation around 7500 or 8k at wot. It threw a cel of cylinder 2 misfire last Friday. No problems at half throttle or below. My gas mileage seems to be suffering as well. Naturally I figured coils. I just replaced them along with wires and plugs last summer but best possibility. I replaced them saturday and pulled my plugs. All 4 plugs are covered in a black sludge which I cleaned off. I also cleaned my maf. I don't get the cel anymore but both hesitations are still there. I just cleared my kam and nvram(?) and will test results tomorrow.

Other than that, any ideas?

Sorry it took so long(busy as hell). Checked and no vacuum leaks. Also figured I would check all the valves as best I could with the engine in the car. Not sure what the valve is called but uppermost valve where the plastic meets the metal freely rotated. I moved down slightly and found that the valve underneath(possibly ssv) would not move at all. I took the intake apart to the point I could see where the valve is. It was messy as hell. I sprayed a little seafoam in both ports and let is sit. Came back a little later, and with a little persuasion, the valve works again. Put the car back together and the problem seems to be solved. Hell, it seems like it runs better then it has in awhile. Thanks for the reply and the help
