Stock Rotor and Height question

I need to replace one of my rotors(long story), might as well replace them all right ?

Question #1

I am looking at the parts right now, hmm, I didnt know Stock rotors from Mazda come in 2 colors, Silver or Black. Who actually have Black Rotors on them ? I never seen them before.

Question #2

it cost about 50 bux more(each) for Cyro-treated rotor(3rd party), is it really worth it?

Question #3

Anybody know the stock height of Rx-8? From the floor to the fender. if no one is sure, Im going to have to reinstall the stock setup back, measure it, then re-install everything back, which is a painful process that Im trying to avoid.

Thanks

Cryo treating them is pretty good if you are in events that require stock rotors. I suppose it's a good investment at 50 bucks for the street, but generally your rotors won't be suffering from heat damage just based on street use.

There is a place in WOrcester MA that will do the treating for $22 per rotor. Yes it is worth it, I noticed less cracking on my track rotors in my 400HP Corvette

I can measure the stock height of my similar Shinka for you this eve nycgps if no one comes up with it by then.

Yes, replace them all. I went with Racing Brake slotted/curved vane at 23k miles (stock pitted/grooved thanks to New England Winter weather, even tho' I don't drive in snow/sand/salt).

I've not done the cryo, but it appears to be a valued process for stock-tracked cars. Unnecessary for street imho.

"From the floor to the fender"

27 1/8" front and 26 5/8" rear. That's stock suspension/wheels/tires and with no extra weight on the vehicle (nothing in cabin or trunk).

It also explains why we more need to watch for custom tire size rubbing in the rear vs. front.

I was thinking to get one of those Slotted Cyro-treated rotor from Tirerack ... but hmm I think stock rotors should be good for now ... I dunno. thinking.

F157-33-251 This is "Stock Silver" front rotor for Special tuned Suspension.

F160-33-251 This one saids "Black" front rotor for special tuned suspension. I dunno. cuz it seems that F160 superseded te F157 part ...

The rear part is all silver I think, but I found 2 part numbers

F151-26-251A
F152-26-251A

I wonder are they both the same ?

Thx a bunch man ! saves me a lot of "painful" time to go reinstall the stock and measure then re-do the coilover !

Im on stock size wheels/tires. so I guess Im good.

Again, Thx !

I personally wouldn't go for slotted brake rotors, even cryo treated. Dimpled is the way to go!

^true, and some like big butt ki- i mean big brake kits

NYCGPS, can you post pics when you get the "black" rotors? I'd love to know what they mean by "black". It can't be paint, since that'd just wear off the instant you brake lol..

Cross-drilled will crack given enough heat
