Steering problem w/600km??

Steering problem w/600km??

Hi,

Im new to the forum. My name is Ilya and I just picked up a Black 6MT GT a few days ago.
I've noticed that when i break hard the steering wheel will jerk left for no reason on smooth pavement! Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Try a wheel alightment and balance steering is pulling to the left .

Check tire pressures, and whether your wheel nuts are tight (they should actually be tightened with a torque wrench).

Also, you can try swapping your front tires left to right. If the pulling direction changes the cause could be irregular tire wear caused by a wheel alignment problem.

Failing these, take it to your dealer. Good luck!!

Are you absolutely sure that there was no minor groves or tilt to the road.

It is very typical for the sterring to pull on ANY road imperfection when coming to a stop. This is due to the nature of wide AND low profile tires + tight/responsive steering. If that is the issue, you will get used to it, (there have been many posts on this topic, many people thought it was a sterring problem.)

Bad idea - the Bridgestone RE-040s are directional, that is, they're intended to rotate in one direction only. Swapping side to side without re-mounting will reverse them from their intended direction (which is labelled on the sidewall).

IllH, the pull you feel is also called 'tramlining'. Search here for that word and you'll find some prior discussions about this effect (also search on the Tire Rack web site, www.tirerack.com , for a technical description). It's normal for wide, low profile tires to 'pull' on pavement that appears smooth, especially under braking.

My bet is tram-lining as well, but tram-lining will only happen if there are grooves in the road, even if you might not be able to see them or feel them otherwise until you hit the brakes. However, it won't happen EVERY time that you hit the brakes, and it is unlikely that the car will go the same direction each time.

If the car literally goes LEFT EVERY time you hit the brakes hard, I would take it in because it sounds as if you have a bad brake caliber even if that sounds really really weird. If it is only happening sometimes or on a specific piece of road and sometimes it might go right . . . well Gordon has it, and it's the tires getting caught in the grooves in the road and pulling you this way and that. It's unfortunately normal on low profile tires although with a little wear on the tires, mine got alot better. Best of luck, and enjoy that car.

Thanks alot guys, I think its probably "tramlining" but I'm taking it in to the dealer tommorw to try to give me an M-flash (for an occasional crank but no start problem) so I will ask them about it then.
