Sounds like power hissing at shift ?

Ok, my brother very enthusiatically asked me a question last night about something I really dont know how to explain. What is the shift hissing sometime you hear from import tuners as they shift quickly? He said he heard a Supra on his way home shift and it sounded almost like a powerful air release every time he shifting, like on Fast and the Furious opr something.... is that just the flywheel or the hydraulic clutch?> please explain?....thanks!

that'd be the blow off valve. when you shift, it keeps the turbo spooled up, so you reduce turbo lag

Good enough, thank you, I'll now have to explain how my RX-8 can't really make that sound.

well, if you go install a blow off valve, i think you can make the sound...but it really wouldn't do anything

If you have a crappy aftermarket intake, you can probably hear a quick soft hiss when the air hits the throttle body between fast shifts. Anyway, a blowoff valve on a non-turbo car wouldn't make any noise (if it opens at all) because there's no pressure to vent. Compressor surge sounds cooler, IMO
