Something strange just happened. Ignition Relay (or wire) issue?

every monday/tuesday they do alternative street cleaning,

the Street cleaning just finished so as usual I move my car back to the front of my house.

Parked my car, but I was looking at my car it looks dirty as hell, why not give it a nice bath? but I parked too close to the curb so I decided to hop back into the car and move it out a little ... then this strange thing happen.

tried to start it as usual. but when tried to start it, whole car's dash just blink/flash and I heard some "da da dat" noise like the starter is not getting power or something, then the car's power just died.

After that, car just died. nothing I do will get any power back. everything stays dead.

I was like "holy wtf ?" did my car just f-ing died like that without a reason ?

so I start trouble shooting ---

**** like this sounds like some fuse burnt, right?

checked everything and nope, every fuse is ok.

So I start pulling Relays, I pulled the Ignition Relay and put it back, whoa, the car has power AGAIN !

but when I try to Start it, same **** happened. "dat dat dat" and everything blanks out again.

so I pull it out again, and reinsert it.

This time the car starts ok.

So now I wonder, is the relay going bad or something?

but I mean, even the Ignition relay (or any relay) is bad(or going bad), it shouldn't kill entire car's power. I mean seriously when the "no power" thing happen my heart stopped for a second or 2.

Strange thing is, then I hop out of the car, pull the Ignition Relay, and try to start the car, of course it will not start. but all the power works 100% fine.

So my question is, wtf just happened ? Is my car haunted or something ?

Do the gauge needles run up and flicker back and forth as well?

If so, ground cable.

I had this issue a few times when removing/installing my battery numerous times

Yet, mine would not do "dat-dat-dat' thrice but continually until I removed the ground and installed it securely.

I checked that already, everything is as tight as a virgin ... I mean err yeah its secured

forgot to say this, when the power is "dead", I pull my multi meter and test grounds/battery to the fuse box under the hood. It has power. it just didn't start + no power at all to the whole car. even the remote keyless is dead, can't lock/unlock door.

so its not a ground problem.

mad weird

First, answer the symptoms I mentioned, if you're not getting them then it's something else. It doesn't have to be the ground on the battery itself, there are other grounds throughout the car that could be loose as well.

well fine lets just say a ground somewhere is loose. it shouldn't cause entire car's power to go out.

if its a short, some fuse will burn (most likely)

but all the fuse checks out ok.

T_T

now Im scared WTF JUST HAPPENED !?

True. Not sure an OBDII CAN scan would do you much good since you can't even get power when switching the key to ACC position from what you mention.

hrm..

yep, no power, no obd II scan.

Now the car is back to normal but ...

I mean relays can go bad and its just 40 something bux to buy another one with lifetime warranty but ... same question ---- I don't think the ignition relay(or any relay) can cause the entire car to loose its power.

wTF JUST HAPPENED?!?!?! DO I NEED TO REPLACE MY TIMING BELT OR SOMETHING?

well dunno, I will keep an eye on that.

difference is that I lose power to the entire car, even door lock.

Hmm, Im thinking maybe I should have a backup of the ignition relay "just in case"

Just swap the "IGNITION" Relay with the "ST" Relay right above it. Quick way to eliminate the relay question.
But it sounds like a battery connection issue to me,

it does sound like one.

but first thing I checked was the battery, I moved it around, no power

checked fuse. no power

checked with multi meter, power is going everywhere. Just no power to the car.

pull the ignition relay out, put it back, power came back.

start the car, dead again, no power to the entire car.

pull the relay again, put it back, this time everything is back to normal.

Im gonna try what Easy said, swap the relay and see what happens.
