Sorry if I'm spoiling your relative annonimity here, but I gotta say that it is REALLY NICE to see a Genuine, bonified, dyed in the wool MAZDA SERVICE MANAGER on the forum (https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=15244)and not "hiding" or "lurking." I wanted to be the first one to say WELCOME, and hopefully set the tone for your continued participation on the forum.

Folks, we've got a resource here who seems like he might be willing to help with some of our service questions... and also seems to have a lot of inside knowledge of Mazda systems and such - something none of us have. If we're polite, and DO NOT TAKE ANY FRUSTRATIONS A FEW OF US MIGHT HAVE OUT ON HIM I'm sure he can be a real help to us.

First off, Im not a Service Manager. Just the run-of-the-mill Writer. I would like to to pass along my experience with you guys, thats not a problem at all. The reason that I came onto this sight originally was to do a little research to what kind of problems people have been having so we can be perpared for it if we ever see it. I would love to offer advice, tips, updates, stuff like that.

Im not hiding or lurking though, just not overstepping my boundries. I dont want to seem like Im not here to ruin this board and ruin all of your planned modifications, just giving you the view from our perspective when it comes to this stuff.

I have no problem offering service tips, advice, maintance plans, bulletins, and things like that. Your more than welcome to try and start a thread and I will answer questions and such.

And, if you want to vent your frustrations, please do! I know how it goes. Hopefully I can explain why a dealership did what they did and things like that. Im used to it lol

I dont know everything, and like everyone I make mistakes, so from time to time you have to bear with me. I will freely admit that I dont know every detail to everything when it comes to Mazda, but if I make a mistake I will accept it and either correct it or admit I was wrong.

Glad I could help,

- Snyder

Dang man, that's a MUCH better response than I expected! I for one think we could use your perspective around here.

But can you clarify one thing? What, exactly, in the Mazda heirarchy, is a "Writer?" Do you mean you are what is commonly called a "Service Advisor," or the person who take cars into service for customers? Or do you work for Mazda corporate, and write documents for them?

Well, Im the " advisor ", " consultant ", or " writer ". Im the guy that gets your service order written up and the liason between you and the mechanic if you will. I work for a dealership, not corporate. Or as I tell people, " Im the guy that charges you 500 bucks to fix your car, you know...the one you hate "

Im trying my hardest not to be your typical service consultant. Most writers work off commision, where as I am hourly, so if I am faced with a situation where, say, someone wants thier brake pads replaced, I try to sell them the pads and resurface/machine the rotors. Now, average its like 350 bucks for all of it. If the customer is concerned about it, I flat out tell them that they dont have to get the rotors turned, it wont be a saftey issue, just an annoyance factor with the sqeaks, vibrations, and noises. I also explain how the brake system works and how pads leave " fingerprints " on the rotors that may have a tendency to wear the pads down a little faster than normal. I have a policy of helping the customer as much as can without giving them BS. Because of that I tend to sell most of the jobs that need to be done. I should a 1500 dollar repair on a 93 626 and the guy said, " I appreciate you being honest about everything and being forthcoming, I wouldnt have done it had you tried to pressure me into it " Most writers are a**holes, I agree...I work with 3 other writers and tell them that on a daily basis lol
