small tears in the leather seat

Another problem with my "new" 8(only has 400km on it)!!! I just found 4 small u shaped tears in the driver seat. I am 100% sure I didn't do it.
I e-mailed the dealership about it, telling them that those must have been there before I bought it, they haven't replied yet. Do you guys think the seat should be completely replaced or are they going to do a patch job? If they do a complete replacement, is it going to be an extremely difficult job? I am very worried they are going to mess something else up while replacing the seat(due to the fact that there must be a lot of hardware involved). Anyone out there whose had a leather seat replaced? Please help to ease my mind!!!

Dont sweat it!

I was putting in my ipod adapter a week after getting my 05 and I sat down in the drivers seat with a screwdriver in my back pocket. Punched a hole right through the seat! I called the dealer, they had a guy who repairs leather and vinyl tears. I gave him a call and he came to my house and fixed the 8 and a tear in my other car's seat as well. You cant even see where he repaired the seat!

killerj... thanks for the story. Mazda dealership here won't replace the seat, they will also bring in a leather specialist to fix it. Once I figure out how to get pics on the forum I will show you.

I wasn't thinking... I just wanted it fixed. Dam... now I got a little around the area I was trying to patch.

As a suggestion and being a past Mazda Parts Manager I would not put up with any so called "expert" repair job, but DEMAND a new seat Cushion trim assembly, these are available from Mazda as a genuine part, all the dealer has to do is have it professionally fitted by a "trim shop specialist" or they can even pull the seat apart and do it themselves. It is NOT an extremely difficult job., the trim is just stretched over the existing foam cushion like a glove and then fixed with wire crimpers....that is it.

This way your seat will be in original pristine condition and won't have issues down the road from some dodgy repair job.

After all you have just bought a brand new car from this dealership and I guess they want your repeat business.??

No problem, DON'T let them talk you out of it.

Most Mazda distributors (MNAO) would import limited quantities of seat trims, just make certain the dealer orders the correct color code for your car, they should have on record your chassis number details, etc..

As I said the seat trims are already stitched and ready to fit like a "glove", the
dealer should be able to claim it back under new car warranty, tell them to claim that the "stitching" has come apart (which does occur).

I just would not like any repair job to fix a trim tear, particularly when you are sitting on it time and time again, the repair is bound to open up and show.
Good Luck.

They are talking me out of it! They are saying because it isn't the stitching, then warranty will not cover it. I even called Mazda Canada, and they said "who is to say that you(meaning I) didn't put the tears in it". I am a little upset about the whole situation. The trim assembly costs 750 dollars here in Canada.

To ASH8: I have a question, what is the mark up on accessories? I just ordered the side aero flares(retail 450), but they said they will give it to me at cost... 380, does that sound right to you? Thanks again.

I am not surprised.

Write to the Dealer Principal/Owner from where you purchased the car.
Explain it politely.
See what the reply is.

My god yes it is $750, so what, the dealer gets it all back from Mazda and then they (dealer) throws out the seat trim in the bloody bin once they are paid by Mazda Canada!

Does this dealer want to keep a happy new customer or not?
Sounds like you got a smart *** at Mazda Canada, but these are standard replies as many owners like to con car companies.

There is such a thing as goodwill, in the end see if MC will compromise, you pay labour they pay for trim?
