Since we can't get a block heater for the 8...

Would putting a heating blanket in the engine bay or propped up under the engine overnight work or be too dangerous?

I've found a magnetic pan heater online someplace, google for it
Personally never had an issue in as low as -53celcius, just make sure battery is strong

yea, like a regular heating blanket for a bed. I have a non heated garage and was pretty bone chilling cold last week in PA.

I never had a problem on my Mazda 3 but I know the 8 motor is a little more delicate/finnicky

I'll look up for the magnetic pan heater

I use a stick-on 25 watt type, works like a charm.

Search the web for oil heaters. They make like a stick on electric blanket that just sticks to the oil pan. But I'm not sure about how they regulate the temps.
