Side mirrors that autodim?

I don't know about you all, but I still have yet to understood why Mazda includes an auto dim home link rear view mirror , and then does not include side mirrors that auto dim as well. I am constantly blinded if I have my windows down at night by trucks and cars alike, but with bigger suv's and tall trucks, its just almost impossible to see through the side mirrors. Anyone have a DIY or is it even possible to obtain side auto dimming mirrors? .

I have never heard of auto dimming side mirrors. Would be a good idea.

Ok, I just googled it. Apparently the Chrysler 300 offers it as does the new BMW 7 series. Scion and Audi owners want it. I did not find any after market, but I did not look in depth for it.

They don't include it because it's not needed.

If your side mirrors are setup properly, rear traffic will not shine into your face. You'll see cars only when they are beside you, at which point the lights aren't as invasive.

Cool Mysql is right....

If you see headlights in your rear-view and both side mirrors, they are set up all wrong.

Had a Cadillac DTS rental last week. The side mirrors had auto dim. It was actually quite nice.

Don't you guys get that idiot next to you in the left lane that camps with his headlights aiming right into your side mirror, and tracks you if you speed up or slow down? I've wanted dimmable side mirrors for years.

Use window tinting on the mirrors.

I've found that a generous (but safe) application of the brake pedal usually gets rid of this guy. I guess he wonders what kind of crazy bastard he's hanging out next to, and moves along.

I've never had much of a problem with lights in the side mirrors. Mine are set up for maximum blind spot reduction.

I get him, too. But that never makes me want dimmable mirrors. Makes me wish I had a brick that I could just drop out the window.

Unless it's under some obscure regulation, it is legal. At the very least I didn't see it in the code for window tinting.
