Sell Catalytic Converter To Raise Funds for midpipe?

I heard a while back that catalytic converters rose in value enough that people were stealing them straight out of cars.

Does anyone know if I can sell my rexy's cat for enough to get myself a midpipe?

yeah most used OEM cats only sell for $25-$50, since you can get an aftermarket one for $150 now.

Link? I'd be interested in a $150 aftermarket cat. Is it a highflow or OEM replacement? RX7store has the RP high flow cat for $345 so 150 would be great.

last High flow I bought for my 10th Anniversary Edition RX-7 Turbo was only $100 on ebay including shipping for brand new and never used or even mounted.

Magnaflow dumps their high flow cats all the time on ebay.

Yeah, easy... the RX-8 exhaust is much cooler than the RX-7 exhausts (side port exhaust vs peripheral port exhaust), and I have run them on RX-7s for years.

Got one on my 1988 10thAE Turbo RX-7 right now.

Great! My cat is 28k old, 33004 area code. How does that sound?

Otherwise, would gutting my cat offer an benefits, performance, audio, or otherwise?

Gutting is not a bad option - you'd get a little performance, quite a bit more sound and a CEL.

The stock cat, gutted, becomes a double resonated pipe, downside is there is no weight saving you'd have with a simple pipe.

is there a way to bypass the CEL if you gut the cat, by say putting in a O2 spacer or something. I just dont want the cat to fail on me and i dont want the CEL coming on and messing up the tune of the car.

The AP programmer from MM is supposed to delete the no-cat CEL (mine doesn't)

A CEL won't in any way interfere with the tune, it doesn't trigger a limp mode etc.

not that i'm saying not to sell you cat but if you live in a SMOG **** state like CA like i do its nice to know that i simple 10 mins of air wrench will get you a smog pass wrather than being stuck with a midpipe that doesn't'. i am running the RP its doing great and passed smog perfect lol even the the guys asked why it was so large and louder than a pervious rx8 they had. but yeah nice to know that a small 10 min of wrench time can pass smog rather than a new Cat imo. but hell i dont think my mid pipe from RP will die but always nice to have a back up

I currently have a simple pipe welded up to the stock resonator. Its no louder than stock. The cat weighs 22lbs by itself, so I guess its good that is gone. Someone paid me $175 for it. I was told that Japanese cats generally go for much more than domestics...don't know why though.

We had that same problem here in Ohio over the summer.
Now if they want the cat, they have to dig a tunnel in the snow to reach it.
