Security Indicator

Anyone ever had the security indicator flashing while the key is removed? The only time I've ever seen this light on is when I first turn the key in the ignition. The manual mentions that it should go off after the car is started, which it does. But mentions nothing about it being on and flashing with the key removed.

Yes, it's supposed to blink to let you know Security is "on". It's also visible for would-be thieves...

“The security indicator light in the instrument panel flashes every 2 seconds until the system is disarmed.” (Owners manual.)

Make sure all doors, hood and particularly the trunk are shut tight. If the light still doesn't blink as indicated in the manual, take the car to a Mazda service facility to have it checked.

Here's a stupid question on this topic? What does the alarm do? I've tried arming it and then attempting to open doors, shake car, etc. but I don't get any alarm. Is there no audible deterant? Or am I not properly arming the system?

leave your window down. close the doors and lock/arm the alarm with the key fob. reach thru the open window and pull the inside handle to open the door- do this inside your garage for the full effect.

So here's the problem that caused the concern for me. The light was never on previously when the key was removed. So, with it's sudden appearance, I thought something was wrong. It still appears that I need to take the car in to the dealer because nothing says it should be flashing with the key removed and the alarm not armed.

I'm getting blinking with just the key removed and the doors not yet locked with the key fob.

you may just have never noticed it, or not locked the car

Agree, but the key has to be in the ignition and turned to the ACC position for the above to apply.

Hehe..believe me, I lock the car any time I'm not in it. I've had the car 3 or 4 months now, I'm sure the light wasn't on before. I'll just take it in and have it checked out.

It also works very well if you lock the door with the power lock button, close it, then later reach in through the open window and open it with the inside handle. I know this because I did it at a gas station once. :p Must have been entertaining to watch me frantically going through coat pockets for the key fob to silence it...

I agree. I believe it was not working before and started working. If I goes out again, I'll run over and have them look at it.
