I was wondering if the 6 speed manual transmission from the s2 is quiter? As the noise the s1 transmission makes is ridiculous.

No it's not, but my S1 trans wasn't loud either. But then again I drive a rather highly modified rotary so loud is subjective.

 

The correct question to ask is, "why is it so loud"

 

I understand that the gears don't intermesh as much as many transmissions, this is to reduce mechanical drag, but the downside is the noise.

I was looking at maybe trying a thicker grade of gearbox oil to try and quieten it down.
