I was just wandering how much this car actually weighs? I've seen 3020 lbs quoted in the brochure and in several threads but on the sticker by the drivers side door it says 3854 lbs. Maybe that's where the Motor Trend test (mustang vs. Rx8 vs. 350Z) got the RX8 weight. Who's right??

 

3854 is the gross vehicle weight (car + fuel + full passenger load + full cargo)

3000lbs or so is the actual vehicle weight ( varies by trim levels/fuel load)

 

From people who have actually weighed their own cars, it seems the weight is somewhere between 2920 lbs & 3020 lbs for the US versions. A Base or Sports pkg model will be lighter than a Touring or GT pkg. The sunroof and other options add weight.

I got this info from the Mazda Japan website, but I think the JDM cars are a little lighter than the US versions:

1310 kg or 2888 lbs (base/type-S)
1350 kg or 2976 lbs (type-E, which is similar to the US GT in trim level)

 

How much gas you have in the tank will also contribute big time on the weight but closer to 3000lbs than 3800lbs.

 

gas weighs about 7lbs per gallon, so 14 gallons of fuel only weighs about 100lbs

 

The JDM versions are slightly lighter because they don't have sunroofs.

 

3020 is the curb weight for a GT package car. In the USA, the EPA curb weight is the car empty of cargo but all fluids including fuel completely full. Gasoline weighs 6.2 lbs./gallon, so deduct that amount by your estimate of how far under full you are.

I had to find/figure this out for accurate HP ratings in playing with my gTech. I add about 190 lbs for me and tend to do those tests with 1/4 tank or about 100 lbs less gas than completely full.

 

Dudes........as Stew says, curb weight INCLUDES a full tank of gas. US spec RX-8s have a curb weight between 2950-3050 depending on options.

 

My touring package with nothing else weighs in at 3004 lbs.

 

Mine weighed 3040lbs with a full load of gas.

 

the correct weight for a us spec rx-8 is approx.... 4826 lbs.. give or take a few depending on the relative humidity and how well the stock market is doing

 

So does it weigh more on weekends?

 

mine is a base model and weighed in at 2960 with a full tank of fuel

 

yeah after a hard night of partying on friday my 8 ends up at around 4152lb but on a full moon its around 3000lb exactly im still tryin to figure it out gimme time....
