rx8 w/ 20b twin turbo
Im pretty new to the world of rotary engines
i wanna swap a 20b twin turbo into my 04 rx8 what do i need to accomplish this? thanks |
To accomplish this, SEARCH.
Oh, and save up about $25,000. |
i wish this thread was this kind of Deja Vu.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_TeJxggJvg7...400/dejavu.jpg But it's not.:( |
You'll also need one of these that auto-replenishes.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-eLLQ3LOMj.../Fatwallet.jpg |
The list of required items:
- A 20b engine - A Turbo - Another turbo - A better transmission - Lots of custom fabricated parts - A custom oil system - A custom cooling system - A reinforced custom driveshaft - Reinforced axles - Suspension upgrades to handle the power - Big brakes to give you a chance at living - A shop that can do 9 months of labor doing the swap - A shop that can do the tuning so you don't end up with a paperweight - A rather large bank account with at least 5 zeros behind a 6 and in front of the decimal point - A increased volume of gray matter - A clue |
^ I like that answer :)

1 million dollars!
|
so i take it i cant make this happen with only 4 grand?
found the engine on tigerjapanese.com for 2,600 will the 13b trany bolt up to the 20b? |
you cant even make the stock renesis reliable with a single turbo for 4k..
Save another 5k and you can turbo the renesis without a problem. Save another 56k and you can have your 20b + twin turbo system. |
Why twin turbos? There isn't any benefit over a single one.
|
consider the cost from tigerjapanese.com, shipping, and the cost to rebuild. You can have a 20b, but not in the car.

found the engine on tigerjapanese.com for 2,600 will the 13b trany bolt up to the 20b? Turbo'ing a stock Renesis is roughly $10,000, parts and labor. For $4,000, pay off a bunch of the car, or upgrade your suspension. |
Because the twin turbo badge/sticker goives u an extra 50hp. Hee needs to make sure he gets one. :)

found the engine on tigerjapanese.com for 2,600 will the 13b trany bolt up to the 20b? You can get a Cobb AccessPort from MM A midpipe A catback BHR ignition BHR Radiator BHR Fuel pump upgrade a Sohn Adapter a Racing Beat or AEM/Mazdaspeed intake A reinforced clutch pedal and have a little bit of cash left over, but have a more reliable 8 (depending on its current condition) with marginally more power. |
ok thanks
if i was going to just boost the renesis what kit should i go with? |
There is this new kit by SEARCH thats pretty good....
|
not again, SEARCH

if i was going to just boost the renesis what kit should i go with? Every single forced induction method for the Renesis is incomplete. The closer to completion a given "kit" is, the more it costs, but even the most complete kits cost $6,000+ and still need modifications to get it to work correctly. You need to start with a budget of $10,000 for forced induction on an 8. Pay little for the parts, pay alot for the labor, customizing, tuning, and probably engine rebuild. Pay alot for the parts, and assuming you aren't scammed, you will pay less for customization, labor, and tuning. Go read the build threads and see the nightmare you are getting yourself into, the problems each build has had, the resolution, etc.... |

come on guys, dont be like that. If he gets the engine for 2600 that gives him $1400 to spend on the swap. I think its possible.
|
^ maybe in PR but the average mechanic doing labor on the 8 charges a lot. Before I did my brakes myself, I called around asking a estimate on a brake change. Front n back with provided hardware. I got ranges from 400-700. I 'd. \
Plus we dont even know where he is from to recommend a shop. |
^^^ maybe in PR?? haha. For real? 4 G's wont even get him to open the hood, here, in PR or anywhere. I was just kidding when I said it was possible. hehe.. Well, Maybe it it possible in PR .. lol, lot of crazy shit on that little island.
|
I know, I know, get ebay kits, that should save some money, for now. :lol2:

haha i thought since in PR there are a lot of drag racing rotaries and decent shops are easier to come by, hence the prices maybe cheaper. |
so...
Any progress on the build? |
I'll be waiting a long time.

Hey guys, come on. He can do this. He can probably custom make all of the parts himself. He'll custom make the Turbo's and the engine, so he's already saved a bunch of money! YOU CAN DO IT!

Hahahahaha omg u guys cracking me up.
on the serious side op, how about get some f-king common sense before you spill more bullshit out? do us a BIG favor please sell the 8 or just crash it if u have one. if you don't have the 8 yet please go get yourself a Civic. Cuz garbage suits you. seriously. |
Wow, just lock this one... I think the OP needs a REALITY check! This is a joke right? In all seriousness, if you are planning on paying someone else to build this then having $20,000 to START will really help.
$4,000= Coilovers/Wheels including labor for those without the 'KNOW HOW'. |

Plus we dont even know where he is from to recommend a shop. Cuz last winter it was dead cold (like 20s) and I need a brake pad change, I don't feel like freezing my ass off so I bought pads and took them to the local shop, they changed all 4 of them for me for around 80 bux. there is nothing special about Rx-8's brake system, its still just remove one bolt, slide the caliper over, take the pads out, grease the new clips, put new clips/pads in, secure bolt. bam ! rx-8's brake disc ain't that expensive. I can get all 4 disc under 250 bux. pads another 50. |
if i were to drop the renesis and put in the 20b what other parts would i need?
