I zoom therefore I am.
if you have the metra kit then there's a way to do it. i have the corksport one and just use the time on the HU itself if my cell phone has exploded for some reason. I have it mounted on the dash next to the display

Information Display
So I just bought a 2004 RX-8, 6 speed manual. Great car so far (have had it 24nrs now). I have a question for you veterans, I used the search function and found this to be as close to my main question as possible.
There was no owner's manual, downloaded the PDF from another post - THANKS!!!
The information display however shows some other owner's name. (ex: Mike's RX8) It has an aftermarket head unit.......I keep seeing people talk about this Metra kit, how do I know if there is one on there? if someone could share a pic if its visible after install that would be most helpful. Or any information about it would be awesome.
Thanks!

I dont have the old factory head unit, which alnielsen confirmed my speculations on that controlling the display
When I bought it last week it just had the aftermarket unit and metra kit. Wish they had kept the factory one and at least tossed it in the trunk but noooooo.
Really would be nice to just at least clear/reset the display.......maybe Mazda dealership can do it......I will go there check and report my findings on here in hopes it will save someone else time that may experience the same issue.
Thanks for all your replies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Solution
I stumbled upon the solution.
Press & Hold the "mode" button on the A/C control, the display will scroll through a couple of A/C related items then changing the time, and finally the display text!!!!!!
Once it comes up act fast and use one of the other 4 buttons on the A/C control to initiate changing it.
Top and Bottom A/C buttons will control scrolling through the alphabet, numbers, symbols.
Left and Right A/C buttons will allow you to scroll left and right within the display.

Well that's good.....if you buy the kit, but I bought the car with kit installed so no instructions......knew there was a way to do it with the kit as someone stated in an earlier post but that was about it.....glad I stumbled upon the way to do it though
