RX8 Engine Compatibility

So the engine in my 8 died at 117000 miles, i dissembled it and my rotor housing are trash. I totaled up everything and i am looking about $2500 for all the seals and rotor housing and a couple other things i need. I am going to repair that engine but in the mean time i am going to buy another engine for like $1500-2000 from a junk yard. I figure a 1 year warranty will give me enough time to get the other engine fixed and then i will just rebuild the junk one when it craps out. I was just wondering what years will work with my 04 with a manual transmission. I want to be able to drop it in and not need to change out any other part (Like the ECU).

Also, anyone know a good place to get a California Legal Cat? I need one of those too.

If it comes from an 04-05, use a MT car to get the 6 port. I believe 06+ used the 6port on both manual/auto. Not 100% sure the auto 6 port has 100% the same intake track, but you could swap all that over.

Wait.... if you have an auto, you might want to reverse that.

I think i will just stick to a 04-06 that came from a manual, sounds like the best thing to do.

04-08 MT engines will work 100% drop in.

Get later year if possible, cuz later year engines have more up to date engine components

I know about the warranty but the cat went out at 105k, at the same time as my clutch...lol. I have not had much luck after 100k with my 8 but i still love the car.
