RX7 engine in an Auto8
RX7 engine in an Auto8
I am starting to get close to the 100k mark for my automatic's engine and am starting to save for another engine in the event that mine goes out after the 100k mark. I know that it is fairly common practice for people to swap RX7 motors into the RX8 but I have only seen it done with a 6speed manual. I am just starting out my research for engines and I did search on here too, so I would appreciate it if I don't get flamed for not searching hard enough. Is it possible to swap an FD engine into the auto 8, or am I stuck with another renesis? Thanks
I wasn't dissing the renesis at all. Re-reading my post I see how it sounds now, I meant it as in it seems like there are more viable upgrades/replacements (in my eyes) for the MT cars, LS1 and other rotary engines. With my new job I could probably save enough for a 20b! But I don't know if I would put one with the AT tranny, if its even possible. I plan to save the car for a long time and will be using it as a 'weekend warrior', hopefully use it as a track only car starting next year. I don't know too much, except for what I read on here, about our rotary engines.it seemed to me that people place the 13b to get more power. When I get a new engine I will definitely be going FI'd.

FD's have 13B-REW
RX-8's have 13B-MSP
you can turbo or supercharge a 13B-MSP and theres many existing mods for the renesis.
20B's cost about $20k get properly done. its not just simply stuff an engine in the car expecting it will work.
now if you talking about AT to MT, there are several people have done it here.

thanks jason! I think I will stay with the renesis as it will be less complicated to do a swap. I guess i just have to hope that my engine doesn't blow up too soon after I pass the 100k mark.
Swap to a 6 speed and a 6 port renesis, the power gains(reliable engine power) you would get with an REW are marginal compared to an FI'd Renesis for the cost of all the fabrication, tuning, the engine itself and the rebuild of an REW.
I wouldn't trade the auto for a mt. The mt's at the track "as in 2 mile race course" are only 4 seconds faster than our auto and a couple mt drivers are 4 seconds slower, the driver makes up for a lot and the 6 spd auto is a strong trany. Stick with the renesis and you will save a ton of trouble in headaches in the conversion.
I have a 4port auto and I think I am going to stay with it. I love the car and have started to get over all of the bashing I get from the other import drivers that have MTs. I think my next engine will be another 4 port renesis with a SC or turbo, but I have (hopefully plenty of) time to figure it all out.
Whoever swap to 13B-REW, Reliability was NOT their major concern, Power is.
13B-REW has some fundamental design flaw which results in much shorter life, they did fixed it somewhat in the later revision, including the Spirit R. it has great power and a properly tuned one can last at least 60-70K miles. but don't expect it to go much further than that.
If you want "trouble free" miles, when your Auto engine dies off, see if its rebuild-able. Assume none of the corner/Apex seal falls off, You should be able to salvage both rotors, and maybe side/int housing. saving u some money.
