RX-8 Engines........... AT vs MT
I'm looking for a slightly more techical aspect, why?
Here's the skinny....a co-worker found out I got an 8, he asked if I got the sooped up engine...?????
My repsonse: There's really only one engine, just that the AT utilizes 4 valves whereas the MT utiliizes 6.
Can someone clarify this stuff for me so he'll leave me alone....unfortunately, he doesn't work directly for me so I can't make him scrub the hanger deck with his toothbrush as I would like to see him do.

The engines have quite a few differences - the AT low power engine has 4 ports and a dual stage intake manifold, and 2 injectors per rotor. The MT high power engine has 6 ports and 3 injectors per rotor, and a 3 stage intake manifold. So, physically (# of ports) the engines are different, and the injector/manifold differences are also significant.

tons and tons to read if you search. lotsa stuff.
yeah, they're the same block and componentry, but the lower power motor has VERY different intake porting and hardware, with a different tune to it as well. lower redline, higher peak torque number, and lower horsepower are a few symptoms of this difference in the tuning.
if you can't find the things i'm asking you to search for, PM me and i'll reopen this.
