Royal purple reccomendations
i'm planning on doing the MT gear oil soon along with the rear end. i think i'm gonna go with royal purple since i've heard its a good all around formula for cold/ hot weather.
what weight should i go with and also are there any other brands i should go with instead: Mobil, redline, motul etc?
any help is good
also i tried search but didn't really know what to put in box so i kinda gave up quick you can just link if you want
thanx in advance all

I switched to all royal purple fluids in my 8 and it worked out nicely... A little costly about $90 for all the fluids including the radiator fluid addative which actually NOTICABLY lowered my engine temps.... For the motor oil 5-30 and the others i cant remember ill look and check for you and see if i can find it on the net
*Edit
synchromax for the transmission just make sure you get the one for manual not auto
Max-Gear for the rear end (weight unknown i think it was 75 but dont quote me on that)
Purple Ice radiator addative

I'd heard in the past from a very reputable rotary tuner that using anything like Redline Watter Wetter or Royal Purple's Ice additive was very bad for rotaries. That the coolant was getting into the engines and the additives were causing a lot of damage.
Anyone care to confirm or refute this claim? From that recommendation I've always stayed away from such products.

I'm recalling what I was told from years ago: but weren't the older rotaries injecting a small amount of coolant would be into the housings at start-up, or something like that? And it was then that allegedly the additives were prematurely wearing the seals.
I don't know, I always was confused and thought was you just said RG...

The RX-7's had something called sub zero starting which would inject a small amount of coolant into the combustion chamber from a separate reservoir when the temperature dropped below freezing. It wasn't much, just a few drops. Not enough to matter. There's no worry with using those coolant additives.

I want to say it was like 2.5 quarts total, or somwhere around that.
There is a DIY in that section of the forum on this very subject. The amounts needed are listed in that thread.

Synchomax is the wrong stuff for the RX8 transmission. This came up once before so I checked back with Royal Purple and here is their response:
Your friend is incorrect - the transmission should use our RP MaxGear 75W90.
That's what I have in my 94 R1 RX7.
Cheers,
David

Doesn't get better than that when the guy responding has an RX vehicle.
As a side, I think by '94 they'd changed it to the R2 package and the R1 was only for the '93 model.
