Royal Purple motor oil

I recently started using royal purple in my RX8. Is there any draw backs that anyone has experienced? I noticed that the shifting was smoother and the exceleration was a little quicker, but the guy at the dealership said that it is bad to use cause it doesn't burn the same as conventional oil. Is this true? Should I switch back?

Second question: What is a good chip to install in my ride to increase HP and get the best performance for around $300-$400? What should I look for when purchasing one?

royal purple is synthetic, sure it burns differently but its not bad for the motor, its beneficial.

as for the second question... just erase that part of your post.

Help me don't shaft me. What do you mean. Be more specific. Should I not do it or save more and do the full turbo?

rp motor oil is good. use it if you can afford it.

i don't worry about oil burning, sohn adapter to the rescue.

just stay away from maxgear in the transmission.

if you want a "chip", get the accessport from mazdamaniac.com - the cost is $700, but you can use it when you go turbo down the road, so it's not a wasted NA mod like a CAI would be.

First, on the RP. Search the board on synthetic oil.. Royal Purple maintains a good FAQ specifically related to the rotary motors HERE. It's really up to you to decide; many use RP and other synthetics here without issue for the benefits that synthetics claim to provide. Some swear by what Mazda says. I use RP and "feel" like the engine runs better.

The RX-8 does not use an engine "chip". It has a software flash stored on the car's ECU. You can either go with a device like the Cobb AccessPort that allows you to flash different tunes to the ECU via your OBDII diagnostic port, or a device that you physically wire to the car's ECU that takes over or alters it. I suggest buying the Cobb AccessPort from MazdaManiac, a reseller of it, as he provides tunes customized to your modifications, with the purchase. Cobb AP by MM

Thanks for the feedback. I just need to to know where to start looking and what to look for. I can't wait. I love this car and I am realizing now that this car is grossly underestimated. I love it. If anyone else has anyother ideas please keep em coming. I am, like others, on a budget; but I want to get something worth it's weight.

accessport and a catless midpipe are your biggest gains. After that you spend a ton of cash to get minor gains, or a ton of cash to go FI. Both the AP and midpipe are good mods if you go FI anyway, so win win.

In Texas I'm pretty sure that we have to have a cat but I wonder if I could pass the emissions when I get the state inspections done.
