Rough low idle

Sometimes my 8 will idle lower than normal and you will feel more vibration that it seems like you should. When it is idle-ing like this you can hear a noise that is what it sounds like if you don't quite give it enough gas when you are taking off. It is almost like its idle-ing right above the rpm where it would normally start to sputter and start to die. It has never died though and it only idles like this sometimes. Anyone else had this problem?

You can assume that a rotary will have a rougher idle than a piston engine, how many miles on your spark plugs? You might want to change them.

I actually just bought the car about two months ago with 66,000 miles. I have no idea about the spark plugs, but that is the next move I am probably going to take.

Spark plugs are a 35K replacement. I would put those, coils and wires in and clean the MAF sensor to start. Get the cars history if you can it could use new motor mounts if it's a early one.

Another unrelated question. If I have the windows down and I don't have any music or anything on, when I drive on a bumpy road there is a noise almost like a metal clanking noise whenever I go over a bump. I took my car to les schwab and they looked at the suspension and said they didn't see anything wrong. The sound must be coming from somewhere else, and when the engine does idle rough and vibrate I can hear a rattling noise that I think might be the same (whatever it is) thing rattling with the vibration of the engine. Any ideas?

I had similar recently with about 30K on it (2006) and it was the catalytic converter which was replaced under warranty. Thank God because it would have been about $1400

If you assume that, then there is something wrong with your car. All the healthy ones I've driven idle as smoothly as most other cars.

Not sure about that, I believe the rotary engine is far more balanced than a piston driven engine.

Hey did anyone find a solution to this??
Its been happening to me a little latley and today when i went into neutral the rpms dropped way below 1k and stalled, happened twice. Need help.

Ive bought gas treatments and gotten full tanks to try to flush out any possible water. Oil Change. Coolant fluids topped off.

any help?

Neutral switch?

Maybe you can give a maintenance history of the car

It definitely can't hurt to do the stuff already mentioned above like switching out the plugs, coils and wires. That can fix a whole lot of problems and make your car run a lot better depending on how long its been since the last time they were changed. Especially the spark plugs.

Yea my idle is a bit rough too. I have an 04 with 62000 miles. I just changed the plugs wires and coils which were desperately needed done. No aftermarket parts on it. And I just bought it a thousand miles ago. is it possible to be a vacuum leak or something? And I don't think its ever had a decarbon cleaner done. How would that be done?

Have you tried cleaning your MAF sensor? It's easy to do.
