I think youre just the lucky one. Most of us that go to dealerships get the same ****. They know nothing about their own car or rotary in general. The dealer I go to has one salesmen who knows the most about the RX8 I think in the U.S. But it's mechanics are clueless on half of it. It's not rare that Mazda dealerships are like this. Don't forget that half of them are Ford techs and not Mazda techs.

Well not my dealership...they have a couple of experienced machanics who know their shxt. lol...
Most dealerships just read the cel code and replace whatever needs to be replaced...you don't need to be a rocket siencetist to do that. lol...and that's the way I like it as long as they do the intalling process well.
And machanics at my dealership do a great job at replacing parts. haha I have yet to have any problem with their installs so far. Besides they seem to have fixed every issue I got in last two years or so. I've never had to go back there for the same issue. So I'm happy.
And I get a loaner car for free everytime...haha.... Some dealerships here don't give you a loaner....seriously!
And the service manager gives me a ride home and comes back to pick me up at my house when they're done whenever they don't have any loaner car available....yeah ah.....lol.... ..tell me if your dealership does that...! hahaha and a free carwash and quick wax every time!!:P

but if u drive around normally, keep it below 3000 rpm for 20 minutes or so. stop by the side and idle for 1 minute. if in that minute you see your rpm goes LOWER than 700rpm, you might have a bad engine.
I gave this test a shot yesterday cause I was curious. once fully warmed, my idle was sitting at about 800 RPMs, but once it twitched to 1000 RPms for a split second. Is this something I should be concerned about? Or normal?

its normal to rev up once in a while the ecu might ask it to rev up coz it needs more power for electricity or maybe felt that its going to stall

They should just flash the car to idle at 1000 all the time. Then it'd be buttery smooth. As it is they will all stutter when different electronics tick on and start to draw power.

Your best bet is to bring them the TSB for the ignition coils and rub their nose in it like a puppy that pooped on the carpet.

A compression testing will solve any queries about engine health etc. Also assuming that you pass the compression testing you will now depending on the compression numbers the exact condition of your engine (i.e. low but acceptable compression numbers, standard compression numbers, high compression numbers).

I'm having almost exactly the same problem. Coils have been checked and they are OK. Now due for a compression test next week. Hoping all is OK. Engine mount have previously been done.
