rotary engine hydrolock

Can a rotary engine hydrolock if it is not warmed up for the prescribed length of time?
I was told by the dealer that it can and don't believe them. If so, what can I do to get rid of the hydrolock?
I was told to remove the fuse from the fuel pump and turn the engine over for about 30 seconds with the acellorator to the floor then put the fuse back in and restart.

They prolly meant 'flood', but don't know the difference. (Most dealers aren't rocket surgeons!)

Give 'em the benefit of the doubt - they know there's something not right about shutting it off cold, so they came up with hydrolock.

flooding is possible, hydrolocking is damn near impossible with our cars.

lol ya they prolly meant "flood" the engine... NOT the same as hydrolocking at all

though its still possible to hydrolock a rotary haha ask tilt :D

Stealth, are you familiar with the problem?
Is there a remedy without having to give the dealer $300 to fix it?

#1 never-fail way to start it is a tow.

Pull it along at 15/20mph, then put the car in second gear and let it rotate until it starts. It WILL start.

If you can get a good boost, that can work, (just don't overheat the starter) no need to pull the fuse, the ECU will cut all fuel if the pedal is to the floor.

Best is to pull the bottom two sparkplugs and turn the engine over a bit, this will blow out most of the excess fuel. Burn the fuel off the plugs with a propane torch before you re-install them.

If it won't start after that, it is dealer time!

Speaking of hydrolock, recently when I got a new engine they denied me. They said it was my aftermarket intake (AEM CAI, which is the exact same unit as Mazda's Mazdaspeed CAI) and that my engine was hydrolocked because they found traces of water in my intake.

I laughed and said if my engine is hydrolocked then why can I get it to start...
I got a new engine about 3 weeks later.

2 months later I received a call from my Service Advisor after stating there was "No way shape or any form of water in my engine".

Feels good to know more than they do, haha or should I say Mazda's Regional Tech Specialst, it was he who told me it was hydrolocked.

I wish I could of have a few words with him, that an 18 year old knows more than he does and its his job.

this is how sad the world has become.

u just need a college degree and you can get the job you want, doesn't matter if u know anything about the job.
