Request: rear door interior trim removal DIY

Hi all:

Anyone have any experience removing the rear door trim? I want to put some sound proofing in there but I cant get the inside handle (big one you pull the door shut with) covering off. I dont want to damage it, but it seems I need a really good grip on its sides to pull it off, I'm really at a loss. I've tried big wrenches on the handle wrapped in cloth bit it isnt budging. Anyone with experience in removing this thing.. please share your secrets!!

bummed

Thank GOD! Someone has done this before!!

OK so as I was saying, so I have a copy of the Service Manual and I've seen the threads on this forum, so I know what I'm supposed to do. Now, I hit no snags removing the first screw from the latch mechanism (the handle you pull to OPEN the rear door)... but the next step BEFORE taking out the two screws from the rear handle is to take the COVER of the rear handle (the large handle you pull to CLOSE the rear door) off by squeezing on each side and pulling... as I said above I was unable to do this and am afraid I will damage the cover. The service manual says to pull "firmly along egdes" to remove it. I must be doing somthing wrong or there is a trick to it...

How did you do it??

PS the attached file is not from the service manual but it says the same thing wrt the rear door trim removal.

Any tips would greatly be appreciated I have had a hard time finding someone who's ACTUALLY done this before!!

ANYONE please let me know how you actually did this!!

cheers
