Removing car for Preservation

Quick Question/ Idea

what if i remove my Catalytic Converter, and replace with a Midpipe/Catback exhaust...

wouldnt this preserve my catalytic converter until it is time to smog it???

i hear alot of people are having issues with clogged catalytic converters.....

and converters going bad????

replacing this would be expensive

Yes of course you can remove it and preserve the cat until smog time.

File this one under don't ask... don't tell . (not legal in certain places.. like USA).

Also people have... uh. not me /wink but people have take cat.. gut it .. and put a pipe inside lol (for places that don't hook smog meter up but might look at it).

Please think also about preserving the quality of the air that other people have to breathe. Like children with Asthma. This is part of your obligation as a member of society.

Tell that to your Governor, hes the one who stopped the the testing of 100% alcohol for automotive use, to line the pockets of the oil companies. and the finished product ready to use was around .50 cents a gallon.Have you ever seen a jet take off, a locomotive under power, the Gulf of Mexico's coastline, a full size diesel pick up accelerating etc etc etc

Im pretty sure nascar puts more crap in the air with one vehicle in one race weekend than your car does in a month... On another note though. Some places will pull you over and do a spot inspection. A gutted cat is less risky than a straight pipe.

A boeing 747 burns more fuel during a new york-tokyo flight than the whole f1 circus does in a season.
With this said i'd remove the catalyzer. I am actually running catless and passed the smog inspection for euro4 vehicles just fine so i guess that a catalyzer doesn't do THAT much

someone else said it perfectly; don't ask don't tell.

the only thing that may or may not get to you is the smell, an uncorked rotary.. stinks.

if you can live with that (pun intended, nOx kills brain cells) then sure, take it off till its time for inspection.

just because the 747, Nascar, or my neighbor's dog release green house gas, doesn't mean I should join them by removing my CAT.

I mean CAT is not the total solution, but if everybody takes their CAT off ... we all be dead in no time.

A lot of cars can pass a inspection without a cat. My cobra running a 427 bored and stroked on 100LL passed a smog test in Texas. It probably wouldn't have in cali where I was stationed, but I kept my residency here. Cats are not the answer...High flow cats just like oil filters don't even filter all that much. Otherwise we wouldn't need filter magnets.

i just dont think i should have to buy a $500 dollar Cat every now and again. since the rx8 is prone to kill the Cat....

and Plus, its not every 1.... its just a few Rotary Owners.... and possibly those dumb Ricers with Singlecam hondas that go 0-60 in 15 sec. who straight pipe their cars and put NOz stickers everywhere.. LOL...

No argument here. Just wanted to present a point of view that is often missing in "delete the cat" threads. Take it for what it's worth. Enjoy your 8.

your cat is under warranty for 8 years/80,000 miles.

and if your cat goes bad out of warranty, you can buy an aftermarket high-flow piece for much less than $500. The Davesport cat that will hold up to an RX-8 just fine is $138.

or you can be a douche and run no cat.

I don't know what contribution NASCAR or your neighbor's dog make to greenhouse gases, but commercial aviation is a very small contributor to that. Greenhouse gases are not, however, toxic. They contribute to global warming.

Cats protect us against some pretty nasty stuff. People who talk about the smell without a cat...ever wonder what you're smelling? I suspect a lot of members here are not old enough to remember the pre-clean air days, when cities would be enveloped in visible smog clouds.
