For me it boils down to the fact that synthetics are not recommended against in the Owner's Manual. That's really all there is to it. The Mazda Oil reinforces that view when it implicity says synthetics are OK to use with RENESIS. It also explicity shows that 5W30 is OK for Renesis so let's stop wringing our hands about dealers filling the case with 5W30.

As far as I'm concerned that should end any worrying about Mazda's stance on synthetic oil. The synthetic issue seems to have taken on a mythic aura both within and outside of Mazda. Let's put it to rest. People have been using synthetic successfully for years in the RX-7. If indeed the seal materials in RX-8 are even better, then where's the worry?

Mobil1 5W30 is what I'm using. I'll get back to you in 200,000 miles with a status report
