Recommendation for Cold Air Intake Replacement Filter

I have a 2007 RX8 with the Mazdaspeed cold air intake. I've tried to buy a replacement filter as mine is toast but cannot buy a Mazdaspeed filter through the dealer that services my car. The AEM site lists filter 21-2109DK as the replacement for the 21-485 Cold Air Intake however the 21-2109DK filter looks like it has different dimensions when compared to the Mazdaspeed filter that came stock. Can anyone confirm that 21-2109DK is the correct filter? Or perhaps recommend something better? Thanks!!

Thanks for the info Charles! Is the AEM 21-485 intake listed on the AEM site different from the version they built for Mazdaspeed? The replacement filter referenced for the 21-485 unit has a tube OD of 3.25" whereas the 2039DK has a flange ID of 3". I'm sure you know your after-market parts far better than I do, I'm just curious about the difference in size of the recommended parts.

first time since i linked an image from my minkara blog so lets see if it works...

this was stamped on my intake.. i bought it used and the guy i bought it from said it was an aem intake. So therefor we can assume they are exactly the same.

even if it was a genuine mazdaspeed intake... it had an aem filter on it with a dryflo cover.

The bad news is 1) I have no idea what led me to believe all this time that the 2039 was the right one and, 2) I look like a friggin' idiot. LOL

Thanks for the better info, Vulcan.

The only way I could be correct, at this point, is if (for some weird reason) Mazda specified a 3" air filter tube for the versions that AEM made for the MazdaSpeed line of products. I tend to doubt it but ya never know......
Wow, it's rather nice to be right about something once in a while

I have my car in for service on Tuesday and will have them pull and measure the old air filter. That'll settle the question once and for all. It's most likely the 3" type specified by AEM, but we may get a surprise.

The plot thickens...

I had the tech at Mazda pull the filter and measure the filter diameter and it is 3.5". So both of the parts we reference in the thread would not have fit

The original Mazda part number is GRMS8MK09. I will contact AEM to find out which of their filters is the equivalent. I'll update the thread when I find out.

Here's the definitive info on replacement filters:

The original part number for the Mazdaspeed branded intake is GRMS-8M-K09. The original part has a flange diameter of 3.5" and the AEM replacement filter is 21-2049DK.

If the flange diameter of the intake is 3.25" use the AEM 21-2109DK filter.

If the flange diameter of the intake is 3.00" use the AEM 21-2039DK filter.

** Be sure to measure the required diameter before ordering as there is conflicting info out there about the spec for Mazdaspeed branded cold air intakes.**

Update because this thread appears in search results: the 21-2109DK filter appears to have been discontinued, and superseded by 21-2113DK. Same part, new number?
