Racing Beat Aluminum Flywheel - Is My Friction Plate Ok?
I purchased a used racing beat flywheel last year and was thinking of installing it this summer.
I dont really know how many miles are on it but it seems to be in decent shape.
What im wondering is if this friction plate needs replacing? here are some pics
When i read online about when a flywheel needs to be resurfaced people say you should do it if you got blue spots which I don't see any and the surface feels extremely smooth. When you look at the outside of the friction plate you will see the area where the clutch doesn't touch the friction plate and if feels like there is only a .002 step from brand new
Does it seem ok to give this flywheel a shot with a brand new OEM clutch? Or should I get a new friction plate for it? I just don't like buying parts if it isn't necessary but obviously when doing a flywheel job you want it to work right the first time :/

Rotary Evolution
looks pretty beat up to me and possibly even developing hairline fractures.
i would replace it, not worth all the effort to save a few bucks to waste nearly a thousand.

Yeah I found out racing beat does ship to canada so when the time comes I want to install it I will order it up, $100 + Shipping is pretty cheap
I was just watching some videos on youtube and came across this video
any idea how this could have happened??? it kind of worries me putting a 8lb flywheel in if its the cause of what happened in the video. The comments for the video doesn't explain what happened or if he was using OEM parts or not

usually it is the clutch disc and not the pressure plate that explodes, what happened there was probably a faulty clutch install or just an extremely rare case of fatigued metal in the PP giving up.
even the disc failures are quite rare, i wouldn't lose any sleep over it though. just be sure to pay attention to your clutch torque specs and installation procedures.
i bet he woke right up when that happened!

change the fiction plate, like Karack said, better do it right or do it twice!
and ur video ... wow ... if It happen to me i think i probably gonna panic, he was lucky the thing didn't go thru the cabin and cut his leg off ...
oh btw, there ARE FAKE EXEDY CLUTCHES out there that claims to be real exedy for rx8 ... I have seen it! make sure you get them from a trustworthy reseller! Fake stuff = bad quality and this might happen to you!

Yeah that video is messed, in his discription for the video he wrote pieces of the clutch entered the cabin, luckily he didn't get hurt.
Im also going to keep my eye out for some sort of scatter shield. if they are light and cheap enough it couldn't hurt, extra peace of mind i like
