Question Regarding Adding Oil............

If I am checking the oil level and the dipstick indicates I need to add oil.........how do I know how much needs to be added?

Today the dipstick was 1/4 of the way up between the Low and Full marks.......I added oil but had no clue as to how much it would take to reach the midpoint between Low and Full.

Next question: After I add oil to the engine, how long do I have to wait for it to hit the oilpan before I check the dipstick? And considering that I am adding oil that is at room temperature (and thus less viscous)......will I even get an accurate reading by checking the dipstick without running the engine?

Read post #10, that should explain how much you need.
