Question for Coils.

How can i see if they are in good condition or not? Or if any of them is messed up?

DIY on testing OEM coils

No need to test them.

when you get high rpm misfires so constant that even changing plugs dont help, its time to replace them.

their life range from 5K miles to 35K. depends on your luck. im dead serious.

Also I notice my idle would jump around as the coils life depleted. Once 4 new coils were on it sat solid.

turbovtec 05-18-2009 09:35 PM

thats exactly the problem i am having. RPM keeps jumping around from 1.2k to 7.. sometimes 5 nd back up. i read that thread and i don't really understand how to see if they are good or not.

unless ur coils are garbage and/or plugs are all bad, no way your idle would dip below 700 rpm.

Its better to check your engine.

Its fine when I'm at normal idle. I turn on the AC during Idle and it just drops to 500.

You need a computer, and a program support the proper data logging.

or do a simple test.

hold your clutch down, Rev ur car like there is no tomorrow and let go, usually, the rpm would "stay" at around 1100+/- rpm for maybe 2-3 seconds before your idle goes to 810. but if it doesnt, its bad.

I did the simple test a few days ago and it passed. Does the clutch really have to be in if the shifter's in neutral?

If the test fails, what is one supposed to do to fix it?

Replace it, I think it cost like 3-400 bux ? :)
