question about the keys for my 06

Ok so i wasn't sure how to search for this particular item on the forum and when i did i cam up with nothing.

My issue is this: My 2006 GT came with these stupid electronic keys similar to the keys in the 05-09 vetts.....So i just have to have it in my pocket to start the car, via turn ***/push button, and it has the little emergency key hidden in it, in case the battery dies. But as anyone else who has these may have noticed, the battery only last AT BEST 1 year without being used at all, and if you use it any amount...it only lasts about 5-6 months. Along with that issue, they have this REALLY bad habit of randomly losing their programming (and before you ask, i DO NOT put the key anywhere near my cellphone or anything magnetic). I've had my car since sept. 06 and i have replaced both keys 7 times for either losing programming or dead battery. *for those that do not know what the key looks like i'll post a pic or 2 after this, the batt cannot be changed*. Seeing how my car is almost out of warranty, i was wondering if anyone knows a way to program these keys yourself without going to the dealer?. Because i can get the key via outside source at a much better price than the $150 unprogrammed price mazda quoted me for a 3rd key/out of warranty price.

I do plan at some point in the future to do a conversion to a regular key system, or a similar system but with keys that have replaceable battery's.....but until then.....ya....

Any help appreciated...minus the flame.....

programing the key is more likely programing the module on the car, has nothing to do with the keys themselves.
my keys are 2 year old, still on original batteries.

and batteries CAN be changed. its at the bottom of the key inside the rubber cap.

Ya, that's kind of what i'm fearing. That its a module reprogram and not the key....=/

As for the battery, i never saw u could take that piece off...altho on mine its a piece of hard plastic. but with a little prying it did come off...getting the batt out is a pain but we'll see if it fixes it.

ok so the new battery fixed 1 key but the other is still acting up...time for another knock-down drag out cussing match with mazda.....whoot for **** dealerships....

Thanks for the help...i honestly never knew you could take that little piece off.....I guess since it was hard plastic i never bothered to try, and everyone i talked to said you couldn't change the bat. Maybe they will stop losing programming so much and i can get by for a while just changing batteries.....

its in the owners manual, I really suggest you read everything in it.

...you do.

1) Go to MazdaUSA.com
2) Register your VIN
3) Download the owners manual
4) ...
5) Win.

true, but other than this, i've never had any issues or questions about the car i didn't already know or could figure out by looking......... all my other issues, have all been poor craftmanship or just plain part failure....and lots of BS from mazda.....*things like my lumbar support cutting a whole in my seat 2 months after i bought the car...and mazda put liquid patch on the seat.....

There's a DIY on programming the keys. Don't know if it applies to the advanced keys like you have or just the switchblade keys, but it would be worth taking a look at. If it applies, it would be worth getting that third key. You need two working keys to program another.
