Putting stock cat back on question/problem
I replaced my stock cat with an aftermarket one. I'm not satisfied with the aftermarket one so will be returning to stock. Getting the stock one off, I had to cut through one of the nuts on the front flange and in turn cut through part of the bolt/threads, damaging it and a nut will not go back on.
Does anyone have any suggestions how I could fix this issue? Any way to replace the welded bolt/stud? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Michael |
Seems to me they are pressed in..just press them out and use a bolt and nut :)

RX-8 Mazdatrix Exhaust Systems
scroll down. if you want to buy elsewhere, mazdatrix takes the mazda part number and puts the front bit last, so you can take the 20-WA10-N3H1, make it N3H1-20-WA1 and go to any dealership or you can pop out the stud and use a nut and a bolt |
definitely just pressed in ... I remember scratching my head over it a couple years back and it dawned on me... a couple mallet taps and they slipped right off.

Thanks gentlemen. I'll use the nuts and bolts that I bought for the aftermarket cat and hammer out the studs of the OEM.

when i took my cat off the bottom stud snapped because the nut was rusted on there so tight... So i went to home depot and picked up a standard size bolt and used locking washers and nuts. dont use nylock nuts, the nylon will melt and it will be a normal nut.

Might I suggest something in stainless steel.

OEM cat is back on, studs popped right out with a couple good smacks. Now to find another muffler.
Thanks for your help guys. |
