My 8 seems to idol very strange...Its a putt putt type a slight bounce of the rpm needle and i get a lot of backfires with high revvving. Some of my friends are mechs. and have no idea about rotorys so they don't know what the hell it is either. I really dread going to mazda for any servicing so if anyone else has this problem of has a fix that they could post awsome. ( I do warm my car up and use preme fuel)

 

Sounds normal to me. A certain amount of popping from the exhaust on overrun is OK, any serious backfire should be looked at.

 

yeah, it's a GREAT thing. heat up your exhaust and see if you're shooting flames, ladies find it quite impressive. :D

 

"Putt putt" and "backfire" are trademarks of a rotary.
This all adds to the charm and eccentric nature of the unique car you have.

if you have an aftermarket catback, you'll here the "backfire" more distinctly.

yup, lots of fun specially when you heat it up. hammer the throttle and shift at 7000 rpm exactly. With an aftermarket exhaust it should let off like a gun.
