Proper Technique for 4 jack stand use

I would like those experienced with doing this, especially those who haven't had the car drop on them - so mostly those who are still alive with the car intact after performing this - to explain the do's and don'ts of properly jacking a car (particularly our RX-8) onto 4 jack stands. Front / rear first, etc. I have a hydraulic jack to use, the 4 jack stands, blocks, etc. I just don't want to make any mistakes the hard way. thanks!

the shop manual shows you where and how to use a floor jack and stands.

Basicly you put your floor jack under the rear Dif and jack the car up.. then put the jack stands where they tell you to put the oem jack. under the rocker panels on that littel lip.. but only where its marked !

then for the front, put you floor jack under the main cross member just infront of the Oil pan. it has a littel bump to help hold the floor jack in place. be very sure you are not pushing on the oil pan. Then put you jack stands again under the rocker panel on the lip where its marked.

IF you dont have the book maybe i can scan and post the pages that show you !!

hope that helps

This was covered previously in a thread with many pictures and diagrams:

thanks. I did a search but didn't find the answers I was looking for - I guess I just never got to that thread. The only thing I haven't seen answered is it a really good idea to chock the wheels of the floor jack? Mine tended to roll a bit when I rotated the tires last fall.

always blck the tires of your car when jacking.. but the floor jack needs to be able to roll as you lift the car. So long as you have the tires blocked the car cant roll away.
