Power adders

I know this engine doesnt respond to bolt ons very well. The question I have is how bad is it? Is it H22 bad? Or worse? I am considering this car in the future but I wanna get it on maybe a faster level. Like maybe high 13's. Mid would be great.

high 13's are possible with nitrous and if you are a VERY good driver.

but as far as power goes, the cheapest way to make power is FI which is expensive

So is it worse than the H22 or what? And how far will 220whp take me down the track?

How does a cobalt SS FWD with only 245fwhp get 13.56 stock and 330rwhp get 13.4? Roughly the same weight.

So no one can answer my questions? I LOVE the look of the car. My favorite so far. Even better than corvettes and such.

I'm not expecting it to be a strip queen. But I want to make it decently fast. Thats what I was asking.

Okay one more question. How is the grip? Traction? Being stock of course. My camaro would lose traction like I was driving in the snow. Well not really but it was extremely easy to lose traction.

How does the traction control work? My camaro it just kicks the pedal back at me and doesnt let me give it more throttle. And how easy is easy? And how is the braking? Whats the steering ratio? Anyone know where I can get more of the specific details? The big question. How hard or easy is it to work on? Like spark plugs and etc.

Are you a troll?????

Sorry but TCS is self explanatory. If you dump the clutch while the TCS/DSC is on, it will stop you from doing that and chances are you will stall. If you notice your tires are slipping (especially in winter) it will limit the power going to the rear wheels and will make your car bog down a bit.

This car is night and die compared to your pos handling from your CAMARO.
Think of it as more towards a Mx-5 or slightly closer to a s2000 that is much more forgivable.

Also, this car will not burn first unless,
A) Turbocharger installed with alot of power
B) Supercharger with a lot of power
C) Crappy *** tires
D) C) with A or B.
E) all of the above

Not burn first? My prelude got a good chirp shifting to second. And forgiving? My camaro is very UN forgiving. Its so easy to lose control of my camaro its pathetic. The RX8 is better? The ONLY thing I dont like about the RX8 is the lack of power and MPG. I am also considering a cobalt ss or an sti. The RX8 is sooo damn sexy though.

To be honest, many people consider the RX8 "lacking" power because they can't beat their buddy on the highway onramp.

The RX8 is not nor was it designed to be a straight line car. The 50/50 distribution and suspension design was to make this a turning car which is why it's seen in autocross and road racing more than on the strip.

My local Mazda Club had a fairly quick SRT-4 follow us up a local canyon drive and he got left WAY behind. The best part was after he finally made it to the top he told a few of us "before today I thought my car was really fast."

If you're looking for a car that handles the drag strip and responds to bolt ons I'd look at something else as the RX8 will always dissapoint you at the track.

Now, throw some turns in there and you'll redefine what you thought "fast" was.

I have a friend with a 500whp Mustang Cobra that likes to go on mountain drives with us. Last time he was in front of me was cause my car was acting up and I was limping it up the mountain.

Keep driving your camaro or prelude but hope not to meet an rx8 at a real track with real turns

Someone correct me if i'm wrong but the Prelude was actually really heavy for a 2 seater wasn't it?

I know the RX8 isn't exacly a light weight car but it's not a pig either.

If you want something that responds well to bolt ons and has the potential to be good on the strip buy a Mazdaspeed 3 if you want a car than will handle extremely well and is well balanced and great for autocross or the track buy an RX8. I have owned both and both are great cars, but the RX8 is not built to be a straight line car.

The prelude had 4 seats. And to the poster above I have DONE research I was just curious for the bolt on mods because i didnt know what it would take to get it decently fast. I saw 1 guy go 14.5 stock and thought that wasnt bad. And a MS3 is ugly as hell.

I think your best bet is to test drive the car understanding that simple bolt-ons won't vastly improve straight line performance. You should know fairly quickly whether or not it's the car for you

i CAN spin my tires tho, real easy. rev up to 6k and sidestep the clutch

I've heard that if you loop the exhaust headers back into the lower intake manifold you unlock almost unlimited power. You could probably use PVC pipe from home depot to do that. Cost like 20 bucks.

I think I am gonna get an 8 for my next car. I dont need all the power of my camaro just yet. Too young and inexperienced. That car is too easy to get sideways too.
