Possible solution for power losing while cruising on hot climates
One member of the spanish RX-8 club forum (chus) had the problem of losing power when cruising on a hot day, the one that supossedly the S flash fixes. After our club president contacting Mazda Spain on behalf of the Spanish RX-8 club they looked at his car seriously (many engineers, etc.) and found that the MAF was the source of the problem, it would give incorrect data but much more incorrect on extremely hot days.
They've replaced the MAF and put on the S flash, everything seems to work ok but temperature these days in Spain is not so hot so we're still not sure if that was really the problem. We still have to see if the problem is the same on the other cars in our club with the same problem...
I wonder if the future recall zoom44 suggested is about changing the MAF.
For those of you who can read spanish the thread is there:

There is a problem with the air temp sensor that is inside the MAF - it will only read up to 200°F or so and then it throws a code. But that is neither here nor there.
The MAF is not used for calculating load under power.
If you are at cruise and you step on it and get no power, the MAF is not in the equation.
As noted above, lubrication is the issue.

TB is after the MAF and has no effect on engine temps. It just lowers the intake air temp at the manifold which may reduce some loss of power during heat soak.
Since the IM is plastic, the temp of the TB doesn't directly affect the intake air temps much.
Most of the effect people with the TB coolant bypass are experiencing (after the placebo effect, of course) is related to the operation of the DBW TB.
The huge loss of power these people are experienceing is a loss of compression due to a lack of sufficient oil film in the rotor housings.
You could set your TB on fire and it wouldn't cause that (not directly, anyway; the resulting destruction of the engine compartment might trigger a failure of the MOP).

would you mind expanding on how this could help the DBW ? I remember reading the thread on the subject when the mod came out, but I don't remember how it would help/hurt Throttle response.

Being in Phoenix...
I'm thinking that this may help me.
I have a bunch of premix lying around from when I had my turbo 7.
In my 7 I used an ounce per gallon though because I took off the stock OMP.
So, how much do I put in the 8. I'm sure it's not quite that much. Maybe 1 ounce to 4 gallons?
Any help would be great.

Im new on this premix thing. What benefits does it provide? 2 stroke motor oil? Is that motorcycle oil? Never owned a rotary before so bear with me on the newb questions regarding this.
Do you just pour the motor oil into the gas tank during a fill up? Do you carry around disposable funnels in your trunk for the oil?
What brand oil do you recommend?
