Possible oil leak or pretty normal?

Hi all

Was just topping up my oil today and noticed what is not actually a leak as such, but just some oily wet spots at the join of a pipe just next to the dipstick.

there are two gold nuts holding a plastic flange onto a metal housing which seems attached to the engine and looks like it runs down into the sump.

It is not dripping and there are no oil runs down the side of the engine, just a little "wet" around the nuts base if you know what mean. i.e there is dust and crap stuck to that spot as it is wet.

Is this supposed to be a tight seal at this join? Anyone else noticed it on their ride? I have noticed if I try and clean the area up with a rag, the nut does not seem to be super "rachet"tight, but it is very firm.

All help appreciated. ( Just getting to know my RX8)

Cheers

Ice

Clean the oil off and see if it comes back.

Might want to briefly take a look at this thread. Make sure you see the pics a couple of posts down.

And to you as well!

Glad that was it.
Hopefully you cleaned it up real well, and will be checking it before a couple thousand Km's?
Take a good look everytime you check your oil........which outta be about every two-three fill-ups.

Update

Hi all

As already discussed, these nuts do work themselves a bit lose over time. I was wondering how tight you can do them up? I have done them up with a socket but not with a ratchet, just hand tight as much as I could go. They seem to be pretty snug.

Anyone else doing these up now and again and how tight are you going?
I think my dealer may have done them up the last time and they were tight.

Cheers
