Does anyone besides me find the gas pedal positioned too closely? I have tinkered with seat settings, but when I get it such that I can comfortably depress the clutch, I find the gas pedal feels too close. Since it doesn't seem practical to have my right leg surgically shortened, does anyone have any suggestions about how to relocate the gas pedal closer to the firewall?

You dont (normaly)have to depress the clutch pedal fully, mebee that'll help you.

 

well i find the pedal setup to be very conducive to heel-toe. that being said, that means the gas pedal is probably 2 inches closer to you than in most cars to bring it more in line with the brake pedal.
i have my seat 2 clicks from all the way back and i need to do a very minor body twist to get the clutch all the way down. even then it's only when starting the car, my clutch engages somewhere around 1/3 to 1/2 way down.

Yeah, I'm getting used to it too, just thought there might be some way to move it slightly closer to the firewall.

 

I believe there is a breed of mountain goat that has legs shorter on one side of it's body ... maybe a little surgery :D

This may be a LHD issue, to me (RHD) I find the pedal placement quite good - even that bulge in the right foot well never proves to be an obstruction.

 

I found it odd at first, but now I sit way closer to the wheel than in any previous car and I'm used to it. I feel like it gives me better control.

On a related note, for one who is having trouble with the heel-and-toe concept that lefuton mentioned, what is the best way to learn it? Do I need an instructor?

 

I'd definitely agree there is smthg short, or long, or probably twisted about the seating/pedal position. I often feel like I would want the seat twisted to the right just a little. So I notice I compensate by occassionally giving a little hip thrust to the left to get over in the left side of the seat.

End result: gas pedal leg is knee up and/or lying against the tunnel. Hard to hold in position for a long time or be easily smooth.

Mirror image is pedal is Ok, can't fully depress the clutch fully without reaching.

Mazda.... try more people in the car and redo driver/seat/pedal positioning next year.

ps. yes I try to be closer to the wheel, but then IT (the wheel) is to close somehow. So my take on a fix is...

Perhaps a simple upgraded steering wheel adj would allow people up closer to the pedals without feeling cramped up to the steering wheel?

 

I agree. I found that it always seems like my body is angled towards the front driver's tire. Getting used to it now.
