Angry Please Help ASAP! Radiator Fan Removal - Im stuck!

Hey All,

One of may fans went dead, so I bought a new OEM fan/shroud. I've just spent the last 3 hours trying to get the damn though out, but with no luck. I read that doing it from the bottom is easier, but I can't find a single thread on what to do to remove just the fans.

I tried attacking from the top - removing the air intake box, battery, and all wiring harnesses. I uncliped/removed the top radiator hose mount and set aside the "puke tank"

The fans are "free" but I can't seem to get them out from the top (it looks like they are hitting the AC fill up line) but I don't see a way to get it out from the bottom either.. short of removing the entire radiator!

can anyone please shed some light on this? My car is half apart, and I'm supposed to be taking a road trip up to NH for the 4th of July tomorrow - any help, links, pictures, would be so much appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance!

try removing the entire radiator out the bottom, or try reading the service manual which will then tell you to drop the entire radiator/fan assembly out the bottom

sounds like you are almost there anyway

Crap - and I assume that means I have to disconnect all coolant lines in order to do so? /sigh If that's the case, I don't think I can do this myself

aside from a few goodies (RB gauge pod, and water, oil temp, oil pressure gauges) that I recently bought, a new radiator and upgraded fan set is my next upgrade. I never want to overheat again. Bu I think I'll leave that install to the professionals - something about draining my coolant completely makes me nervous. Not to mention I'm doing all this in my Condo parking lot - so it's not really an ideal work environment!

Yeah having a good work area and good tools are important. I could change the radiator and fan shroud with my eyes closed

You can get he fan shroud in without dropping the whole radiator but you will have to drain it and disconnect the hoses so that you can maneuver it so you can get the fan shrouds in.

I did it once for a member here, not radiator Replacement, I drain his "black" coolant out completely, replaced the thermostat and water pump. all in his condo's parking "space". well the management did say "something", but I got it done fast so it's all good.

Most RX-8 people have no idea there is an engine block drain, it exist since the first rotary engine, but for some "reason" they didn't say a word about it on the 13B-MSP's workshop manual. and they changed the plug like bolt to a regular looking bolt. So a lot of people didn't know it exist and end up just draining 2/3 of the coolant.

if you are going to do the block drain at the shop too, then you might wanna get the gasket for the plug first.

Edited : Found the part number 9956-41-000
