I don't know of any "performance" trannys out. Mazsport did have their 5 speed conversion which was a good idea just not worth the price and the fact that they are out of business now doesn't help. I know a few guys that have done custom 5-speed swaps using 3rd GEN RX-7 trannys but that's all. The 5 speed gearing works really well with this motor. I always wanted to do the swap myself.

If they had ppg custom make some gears to fit the 8's trans then it would be possible, but ppg doesn't make gear sets for our car's the last time I checked.
If it really does have ppg's then you have a virtually indestructible trans. The gears they make for the WRX are rated 700+ hp. Won't make your car faster really, might because you'll be able to launch and bang the gears, they don't mind.

Yeah, I was talking with a company who modifies the Aisin/Jeep trannies for rock-climbing (and other applications as well) and all that and, although they are well-connected with Aisin, it was tough to get anything going so I decided to focus on a few other things before dumping a lot of money into tranny development.
I may soon try again, though, as a few dynamics have changed.

Yeah I'm running on the crappy Re040 tires that came with the car, I think they have like 80% wear and the crappy ones in the back, I just recently purchased a special set that's better and is rated higher.
