Paint Rotors?

IN Paint Rotors?

Hi guys. I just got in my drilled/slotted brake rotors that I ordered a week ago and a friend of mine at work was talking about rust protection etc. He had mentioned that he knows of people that have used high temp clear paint on the rotors before putting them on. The rotors I purchsed do have the zinc coating on them for rust protection.

I guess my question is, does anyone have experiences with using high temp paint on their rotors? Does it help? Screw up the rotors and/or pads? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Why would you want to paint your actual rotors? The brake pads are going to scrape it off.

Whoever told you this is full of BS.

if you paint the rotors the first time u hit the brakes the pad will wear it right off....this person is DUMB.....I painted the inside hub part(where no pad touches) with black to prevent rust but painting the rotor surface will not do anything

Yeah I am 100% positive he said rotors. I thought it sounded pretty stupid when he told me that...Thanks for the input guys. I appreicate it. Just trying to prevent rust as much as I can with the rotors I bought.

Yea I think he meant the inside hub part where rust builds up not the actual rotors.....for those of you with OEM Rotors, I'm sure we all know what part that is......

how would you paint the inside hubs? spray paint or just brush it on??

^I taped off the part that the pad touches and just used high temp spray paint(black) about 4 or 5 coats and looks really good with my black wheels

opportunity to ask about something i've pondered on for a while...

The nice replacement rotors such as the Racing Beat that have zinc or cadnium(sp?) plating to prevent rust, over time, would that layer not get worn down and cause normal rusting?

Or what would happen if you had these nice rotors machined, then that layer would be gone correct?

depends on the thicknes of the "plating" as to how long it takes to wear down eventually it will wear down...as for machining yes it'll take the "plating" off (like i said depending on how thick it is which i'm guessing it's just a thin layer) and I"m not exaclty sure what the RB rotors look like but if they're drilled and/or slotted you can't maching them anyway..

i painted the hub easlily silver high temp paint just paint liberally turn the rotor dont worry about painting the actual rotor and let it dry real quick turn the car on and take it for a drive and hit the brakes a lot and itll look like it was done professionally i think i sanded mine down and painted the hub part and it looks brand new and i did the back shielding too while i was it

^ddin't want to take the risk of glazing up my pads with the paint you scraped off the rotor so I taped....and mine looks professional

Another random though.

Why don't people come up with a hub unit that connects straight to the rotor hub to measure wheel horsepower. This would in theory eliminate the wheel/rim/tire weight factor from the actual horsepower and torque being sent outwards to the half shafts.

Yea, random, no need to answer.

Paint the hub part black, and if you're ballin' high temp heat clear it. I recommend you do your calipers at the same time, since even one can of spray paint will be MORE than enough for just the hub part of the rotors.

RenesisSE3p...I stand corrected then lol. Is it more expensive to get this than regular jet/mustang?

Yea, high temp anything paint will be adequate for hubs. The brake pads can only get to what maybe 300F tops? Correct me if I'm wrong.

And so the paint rated at 2300F should be good...
