Paddle shift problem 2005 RX8

I recently purchased a 2005 RX8 from a "little old lady". The car is beautiful, clean and low mileage . The only problem is shifting up with the paddle shift. You sometimes have to click it several times to get it to shift up. It shifts down with no problem. No problem with auto shift either. The more i do it the better it seems to be getting. I asked the lady about it and she never used it and didn't even know it was there. Has anyone had the problem and how did you fix it. I'm afraid of setting off the air bags if I start to fool with it.

Thats normal. It wont shift till the car is going fast enough and you keep your foot out of it. It has paddle shifters but its a real automatic not a DCT that would cost thousands more. You wanna talk PM me...

You are right, this condition is not normal. If both upshift paddles are sticking it's probably the up switch.

problem resolved, my mechanic said "just keep working the paddles". Slowly the condition started to improve now it's working very good and only occasionaly do I have to hit it more than once. Thank you all.

this was a 2005 with 25k and driven by a woman. When I asked her if she had trouble with the shift paddles she said what's that. She never used them so I guess thats why they hung up.

You bought the one car that is worse off if a little old lady put those 25k on it... Make sure to drive that thing hard for awhile..seriously, redline it everyday, and get some seafoam or Mazda cleaner in the manifolds. There's probably a ton of carbon lurking in there. Maybe look into premix too, that helped my engine run super smooth at idle. I bought my 05 a/t from a lady who babied it.. 32k I was at the dealer for a sudden engine swap because of loads of carbon. Just my 2cents, have fun with the paddles they're a blast
