P0335 after new coils placed

Anyone ever get a P0335 code for there essentric shaft position sensor? It popped up after I upgraded my coils on the rx8.

Car seems to run fine I read everything under the sun on the forums. Cleaned sensor, replaced it with a new one, checked my engine grounds. There all good, I still gotta check each plug wire on the plugs but I doubt it’s that if it’s running properly. I ordered a new Maf sensor that should be here next week

Did you do the brake stomp method; this clears out the pcm memory for it and starts over from scratch?

Yeah did it twice, unhooked battery and cleared the code each time I have retried. Oddly enough the code does not come on right away, only after my first start cycle the code reappears.

I have cleared the code, started car and waited for it to come up to temp. Idle is strong and holds steady, i drive the car light for a few miles. Park the car shut it off and without starting the car I hook up to read code and the code reappears.

I do have Versatune and put in a new tune for D585 coils and cat back. Prior to this I was running a tune for just catback had no issues whatsoever.

So oddly enough it was my tune that I had in the car that was throwing that code. I went back to the prior tune I had and the code instantly went away. I’ll have to reach out to Versatune about it see if it’s happened with anyone else.

I tried clearing the code before I started the car today and the code would not clear. I reflashed with the same tune minus any monitors I had shut off and the same outcome without starting the car. I then decided to flash with my last successful tune to try and avoid taking apart new coils and reinstalling the old ones.

success!

Where did you bolt the coils earth wire to? I'll have to hook up my new OBD2 dongle & see what code I am getting.
My CEL was on all the time, till I moved it from body to engine. Now its off most of the time.

Why did you string it all the way over there? That doesn’t make any sense and is a good example of how people make problems for their self. You don’t want wires running needlessly all over the place, especially coil wiring. Did you not look up and study what a grounding loop is or just not understand it?

The spot you were directed to in the link below is short and minimizes the ground wire length, being close to the coils and also to where the ignition is firing/grounding the sparkplug. Coil wires have a lot of frequency, which generates electromagnetic interference that can cause issues. Instead you ran it all the way to the far other side of the engine.

I did read about it, I’m definitely not a master auto mechanic! I did move it from the battery, if you saw the coil ground wire that was supplied you might have thought it wasn’t a bad idea. The wires are super sealed with a heavy cover and the length would almost reach the passenger wheel well. I ran the ground along the path of the alternator cable. It’s out of the way from any danger *shrugs*. When I pull the left front next time I can run it to your suggested spot, I may have to run the wire in a few loops and zip tie before I mount it above the spark plug housing.

Aside from the location this was not effecting the P0335 mil, Steve from Versatune is looking into what my issue may have been.
