override security ???

I purchased a 2004 RX-8 , automatic (that I also have posted for sale) That does not start or even turnover. The Security light flashes on the dash but thats about it. Looking for ideas or any input on how to override the security and get the car started. Thanx in advance for any and all help on this........Steve

Well instead of trying to get around the security.. lets first try to find out WHY the security is there....

where did you get the car? what are the chances it is stolen? do the buttons (unlock and alarm) work on the remote (or does it even have them).. and the most important question... why would you buy a car that you couldn't test drive? or is this whole thing a recent development...

I kinda curious as to why all of his posts refer to getting around the security system on the 8. Take to the dealer and have them fix the situation. I would think it would be under warranty and probably could get it towed to the dealer by roadside assiantance. Something about your posts seem fishy to me.

the ECU has a PATS (Engine immobilizer), which prevents you from starting the car with an incorrect coded key.

So, right now it seems like your remote, even your keys (!?) doesnt work. it sounds like the car was a "stolen" one and somehow got to DMV. Just read a news about these kind of cars you better becareful about it. cuz you might have to "return" it couple of weeks later without a refund.

For now. you might want to bring it to the dealer and explain to them what has happened. but you should expect dealer to charge you alot to get new set of fob, code, the worst scenario would be replacing the computer, which would cost you a few K

edited: oh by the way, the light flahes on daash and nothing else that means the security is on. you cant start the car like this unless you have the right coded key, so you have to bring it to a dealer, or hire a elite hacker and remove PATS from the ECU(of which, I think its easier to bring it to a dealer)

remember curiosity killed the cat..........If you read my post you would see that I bought it at a NYS DMV auction....it has Salvage paperwork (and for parts only).

You are more then welcome to inspect it if you'd like.

I know from personal experience that BMW voids the warranty on salvage cars. Although my dealer did do two flashes for emissions with no charge even though they said they didn't have to. Not sure about Mazda but take a dozen donuts with you if you do go to the dealer, tech's love donuts.

I'm just saying, that instead of "getting around the security" maybe you should have asked how to get your keys to work properly with the security system. There is no getting around the system, if your keys don't work then you have to have the dealer program them for you, just that simple. Might also be possible you only have the valet key too.

Arrow Keys....

Sounds like he only has one key, so no chance of teaching the computer to recognize any new keys.

The dealer can hook the computer into the WDS system, then teach it to recognize a couple of new keys. Even at $48 a key, plus about two hours labor, it's still cheap.
