Alright, I just added like 0.45 quarts of Pennzoil 5W20 Dino Oil after 1600 miles. I didn't see Synthetic anywhere, so I'll assume the next common thing is dino.

Still hasn't broken down.

SYN IS NOT A SIN!

ROYAL PURP 10-30W ...1ST@1000, THEN AGAIN@4000. REMEMBER PEEPS, YER RESEARCH SHOULD NEVER END AT A FORUM. THERE IS ALOT OF DOCUMENTATION OUT THERE ON THIS PRODUCT VS. OTHERS. CHECK IT OUT!

Royal Purple truly is beyond synthetic.

So you just don't want to follow any of Mazda's recommendations, huh?

I initially had problems finding 5w-20 at the local auto stores and asked the Service Manager at the dealership if it made any difference to go to 5w-30 or the common 10w-30. He urged me to use the grade Mazda says. As it turned out only one quart existed in the service dept. I got it for free for alerting him to the fact they needed to get 5w-20 on order for the RX-8s.:D And this was before I knew a lot of my oil for the next four years will be free.

WELP, ITS LIKE THIS... THE ONLY REASON MAZDA RECCOMENDS 5-20W IS TO OBTAIN THE MILEAGE RATING THEY SUBMITTED TO THE EPA. ITS A THINNER OIL, THUS LESS RESISTANCE AND BETTER MILEAGE. THE DOWNFALL IS THAT IT WILL MORE QUICKLY WEAR ON THE ROTOR BEARINGS. 10-30W BEING A HIGHER DENSITY OIL WILL PROLONG THE LIFE OF THE BEARINGS AND BEING SYN A BETTER SLICK FACTOR MAKESUP FOR THE MILEAGE. BUT, DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, RESEARCH IT YERSELVES AND YOU WILL C!

Uh, I wouldn't exactly call reading the manufacturer's web site "research." It's more like a marketing blitz. Even the phrase "Beyond synthetic" is Royal Purple's registered trademark. I hope you dug a little deeper than that and included research into oil injector performance in rotary engines.

i did not read the web page to check this. but did you research the burning tempature of the oil? that is why mazda does not recomend synthetic. it burns at a higher tempature, since the rotary uses so much oil it needs to burn it at a lower tempature, by using synthetic oil you risk oil going into your catalytic converter and damaging it. im not saying it wont happen, but that is the reason mazda told the techs in rx-8 class. so i would highly say stick with mazfa recomendations and use NON-SYNTHETIC 5-20 oil.

I have a weedwacker that I measure oil/gas out for precisely. I have one of my X-G/F's mixing cups to do it in. I suppose I'll need a new girl to help me bend over and monitor the oil in the 8!!!
