Okay to put jack stands here?

I wanted to know if it was ok to put the jack stands as in the picture. I'm worried that it will bend the frame cause it doesn't seem that solid. So if you can confirm if its safe to put it there, that would be great.

Hmm I used the jack points on the side... just did it today to change my transmission and diff fluid. I jack the rear first and then jack the front.... I leave the jack a little bit lower then the jackstands just as a little precaution.

I use the plate that is to the left of your jack stand in the picture. It is a lot thicker then then the unibody.

Yeah I use that spot all the time, as well as the plate to the left that dark8 is referring to.

I've bent the frame a little by putting the jack stands where you first indicated.

I disagee, they should go on the outer rails where Mazda tells you to use the OE jack, I had my RX fully up on those points for a week without issue

Do you have jack stands with slots in the top pad to clear the vertical rail?? Mine don't have the clearance so I'm thinking of making wood pads that would contact on the flat part.

I'm pretty sure the best resource for this inquiry would be your owner's manual

Do a search. This has been discussed several times before and I believe there are some pics in previous threads.

Right where the red circle in x-ped's pic is. That's where I always put mine.

I don't have a pic for you, but it's very easy to see the spot if you get down and look. there are two dimples in the rail, and the jack goes in between those two dimples. Also, the side molding has an indention at that spot to allow the jack to fit without touching the molding.

i have always used that 'rail' along the side of the car when jacking it up, or putting it on stands.

First hint for anyone with a low post count: try searching the forums to see if the question has been asked and answered already.

If you're talking about my pictures, you don't want to put a single jack stand in the center of the car. That puts more weight on a single stand and isn't as stable as two. Furthermore how are you going to lift the car to put a stand under the center? A single lift on one side will tilt the car. Trying to put a single stand under the center of a tilted car is pretty unsafe.

but I'm always wondering if I'm doing the front jack correctly...I used the pic from that website but it still is unlcear

anyone have a pic of the car on a lift and can circle the point? so we can see the entire car's underbody?

thanks!

That is a pic of the car on a lift. :p Any farther back and you won't see enough detail. Try jacking up one side and using a flashlight to locate that hump with the hole in it. It should be easy to locate.

what kind of jack do you guys use to jack the car up from the jacking points? I have a 2 ton jack and its hard to get under the car with it cuz there is barely any clearance to jack it.
