Question Oil to top off

Hey everyone, just got this '05 rx-8 about a month ago. It's at about 15K miles now and it's been driving great, no problems.

Today, the red oil light came on (low oil) and I just parked it soon after. It currently has 5w30 oil in it, and was wondering if I should just top it off with some 5w30.

It will get colder here soon, and was wondering if another oil is recommended, or 5w30 should be good enough.

Which brand of oil would be the best for this engine? Also, do you recommend any additives (oil or fuel) or anything else since it's only got 15k miles on it, or should I wait on that?

Thanks!

I highly suggest you search before some old timers come here and set you a-blaze!

You should just top it of with whatever is in there, don't change weights until you change the oil. 5w30 should be good all year though.

As for fuel system cleaners. https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-mazda-zoom-power-engine-cleaner-engine-cleaning-seaform-142852/

There is no such thing as "best for your engine."

Use at least 5w30. change it often, top it off whenever possible. u'll be fine.

any oil is better than no oil.. and the owners manual has lots of helpful hints in it..

btw, the rx8 burns oil on purpose. and the low to full oil lines are 1.75 qts apart..

Pick your favorite oil, after studying the endless oil threads.

Also your favorite additive, although I think the additive threads are a little harder to find. Personally, I don't think much of oil additives - too many memories of STP.

And check the dipstick every few fillups. The oil light is kind of a last warning, and comes on when the oil is really too low.

I am 99.9999% sure I read the EXACT same post from you about a day ago! There are too many oil threads!

Never let the oil light come on in the first place. this engine is designed to burn oil. so keep it topped up.

Could be...my short term memory isn't what it used to be...although I don't really remember what it used to be.

Fortunately, it wasn't in this thread, so my cognitive powers are still OK. And presumably better than those of someone who waits for the light to come on rather than checking the stick.

Repetition for the protection of an RX-8 should be excusable.
