Oil Temperature Gauge: Auber Instruments
 

Okay so I know I posted pics from the manufactures website in another thread but I just got this thing in today and it is just perfect for my needs. This gauge is made by http://www.auberins.com and the size is just perfect. i didn't want another pod or the RB pod so I did some research and came across this. Not only is it the perfect size but from the research they seem to be very reliable and very accurate.

Anyway I plan to mount it in the center of the radio where the minidisc player goes. Any input is welcome. Sorry about the quality, just some quick pics.

Yeah it should fit perfectly there. I had the measurements before but actually holding it, it is just a solid product. With the amber display everything should match perfectly.

Yeah I was just looking at different options for measuring oil temperature and came across this being used on a cappuccino machine, haha.

Thats pretty neat. Beats the heck out of mounting a special pod or doing too much modification. Wouldnt mind having one for EGT...

And they have one that does multiple readings, boost, EGT, etc.

I don't know about detailed but we will take pics. It's pretty simple because I have an oil filter sandwich adapter already with extra ports that I will screw the oil temp sensor into. Then I will run the wire through the firewall and into the back of the gauge. Then I just have to get 12v from the cigarette lighter.

Okay, these quick pics suck and my car is always clean as whistle so forgive the greasy dirty prints all over everything from the install. But I am very happy with it!!! I still want to get into the setup to see what else it can do. It will also measure EGT and some others with the right sending units. I will take more in the daylight. It was an easy install but my headunit went dead and it took me a couple hours to get it apart and figure out how to fix it. The face plate needed to be removed and reseated.

Yeah me too but I couldn't wait and my dad brought his Dremel so we knocked it out. I am really impressed. You would be amazed, at how long it takes for the oil to heat up. Those temps at 120 degrees are at full warm up with the coolant temps at over 180 degrees.

So, even me letting the cars coolant warm up fully to 150-170 degrees is not enough time to get the oil temp up. So that means all the guys that just get in an go are driving around with cold oil for a while. I will start data logging tomorrow and time just how long it takes to heat up.

Oh, and I already had the Prosport oil filter sandwich adapter plate so the temp probe just screws right in.

and good tip about the prosport filter adapter- those are half the price of RB ones...

Just make sure you ground the gauge properly. Yeah the Prosport one is great and I still have two available ports. I thought about tapping the oil pan for the oil temp but it was too much of a pain in the ass.

A digital oil temp gauge in place of a radio? Now that's dedication. ;)

It's not in place of anything that panel is just a blank piece where the factory minidisc player is supposed to go. so behind that panel is open space. Perfect spot.

9krpmrx8, I ordered everything including the prosport adapter.
Where did you use to ground the gauge?
I'd assume any metal should do fine...

Actually I'm having an issue with my ground point and I am getting an intermittent error code. I was lazy and grounded to the bolt that holds the shifter down because I didn't have a quick splice small enough to attach to the ground on the cigarette lighter. I used the positive on the cigarette lighter for 12v. This weekend I will re-ground it to the cigarette lighter's ground.

Also, the end of the sensor doesn't spin so remember to screw it into the prosport adapter before running it through the firewall. I will also be running a copper wire wrapped around the metal sheathing on the sensor wire to a ground because the tech said it will help reduce noise and give more accurate readings. The Tech support was great when I called about the error code I was getting.
