In a way, you are making 9K's point. RP seems to be fine if you change it frequently. Otherwise, there are other oils that stand up to the high shear rate of rotary engines better. Given those facts, is RP really worth the boutique price when you can use Redline or Amsoil instead?

Among motor oils used by the thousands of track rats I have seen come through my home track, Mobil 1, Valvoline Synpower, Castrol Edge, Redline, and Amsoil are the most common (in approximately that order). I don't have a good feel for what gear oils are used, but RP is way down the list of motor oils in use. Again, there must be a reason, and I have to assume it is cost vs. performance or simply performance.

Idemitsu 5W-40 fully synthetic would be fine, but it's not made for a rotary, it's just a decent fully synthetic. And it's probably a pain in the *** to get.
I went in person to MazdaTrix as I often do every several months to buy my rotary products.

Idemitsu Oil has been specially formulated for Rotary Engines.

An image speaks louder than a full page paragraph.

That's cool, I could make stickers and put them on oil bottles too. There is a sucker born every day.

So you know better than the guys at MazdaTrix and the owner and racer of Mazdatrix as well.

I can tell you just like to argue.

The largest print on that bottle says 'Racing' - it's not good for cold starts, economy nor fast warm -ups.
Strictly an oil to protect an over revved engine grenading in a race......
Not high on my priorities, but exactly what I would use in a race.

It's not about what I know, it's about facts. The data sheets are available for that oil, it's nothing special and there is no way to formulate oil specifically for a rotary, it's engine oil. Shops sell ****, that's how they stay in business so they will say whatever is necessary to sell products. Mazdatrix is a good company but chemical engineers they are not.

Take Pettit for example, they claim to make a "rotary premix" yet it's just rebranded Klotz 2 stroke and after much bugging one of their employees finally gave in and posted the MSDS sheet and the group started picking apart things that did not add up in this MSDS sheet, so then the sheet magically changed and was reposted but there was still suspicious info and that was pointed out yet again until the employee just gave up.

But if you believe the hype then it's cool, we all have opinions. Run some of that oil for a few OCI's and then send a sample off to get tested and post up the results and then we can see how well it does.
